BoomBust if the first of its kind in the simulation genre. 

It's the first open market MMO timer game where each buying decision you make effects the prices for players worldwide.

What is....

 

BoomBust is a timer game, you can purchase a business and click on it's icon to earn gold. Every business has a different income and takes a longer or shorter amount of time to generate the gold. You can buy more of one business to increase the money you earn and sometimes speed up the process too!

Managers

Each business has a manger, this is someone who runs the business for you. By running the business, I mean they will click on the business icon so you don't have to. That way you can close the game and come back a few hours later and see how much money you've made!

Resources

In BoomBust, every business generates an imaginary resource, you can't see them, but they're there. These resources are used to facilitate production for other business types. For example, an armoury requires food to feed it's troops. If there is not enough food for the amoury, men starve and the armoury has no income, only overheads. The armoury would then start to lose money because it's costs are not being covered by it's income.

BoomBust is built on the principle of a suply and demand economy. Each business puts out supply and at the same time, demands somthing from another business. In BoomBust, this is completely invisible to you which makes balancing the trade of each business that much harder.

You must watch the prices and revenue streams rise and fall accordingly to guage if you're operating at a trade surplus or defecit.

Each business can produce excess goods or services, or it can underproduce. In BoomBust you'll know if you're underproducing drastically because the buy button for that business will start pulsing.

 As the game progresses, it will get harder and harder to know how far in surplus or defecit you are as the margin for these 

I don't get it, what's the point?

Well, unlike many timer games there is a way to win BoomBust. 

If you are the largest economy in the game, you have the pleasure of stimulating the interest rates. Much like the real world, the interest rates will effect everything in game, from the amount of credit you're allow to the cost of buying new businesses and even the amount of money you earn from those businesses. It's all built on a solid foundation of economic theory and real world pratical working. Each day, the number one player has the choice to raise or lower the interest rates depending on their own personal desires. 

I am hoping to add more functionality to the top 10 economies in the game as time goes on, there is and always will be some form of end game as an incentive to grow your economy.

But wait... it's not that simple!

Much like the real world, expand to quickly and you'll have liquidity issues, balancing issues and trade defecits. Exceed the credit line you're given and you'll go bust. If that happens - you're back to square one and have to start the game all over again. What's brutal is one puchase decision could literally put you into massive negative GDP growth and cause all your businesses to hemorage cash.

My Story

I came up with the idea behind this game 4 years ago sat in my university dorm after playing Adventure Capatilist. It was my favourite game at the time and completely opened me up to the timer game genre. It made me wonder what if I could link the price of each business to some kind of world market. 

I spent the next 4 years making various games, some failures and some even bigger failures. In those failures I learned the skills required to put this game together. 

I am a one man indie band, everything in this game has been made by me, with exception to some of the artwork which I have purchased. I animated, coded, designed and sound engineered every aspect of the game myself.

Why Kickstarter?

BoomBust needs help, it's working but still far from being the game I imagined 4 years ago. I need to hire in animators and designers to help bring this project to the standard it needs to be in order to compete with games in the genre. I also want to form a small community of supporters who want to help test the game and develop the balancing so that the world market doesn't crash and burn, preventing new players from taking part. 

The majority of the funding will be used on getting animations/artwork done.

I also want to hire a writer to add dialog into the game, perhaps some conflicting interests of the managers - who knows!

I am completely self sufficient so none of the funding will be used for my general upkeep - only to hire more people to come and work on BoomBust with me so that we can polish it up.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk is always, not finishing the game.
I will be honest - i've had that issue before, i'll explain why.
When you work in a team, your game becomes the product of many minds, creative and logical. When one member leaves, or quits, the whole project goes into limbo.
I made this mistake in the past and was left with a years worth of work down the drain, because I didn't understand the code, how it worked, it was out of my depth.

I made sure that wouldn't happen with BoomBust - so much that i've written every line, drawn every pixel. The only person that can stop the game from being finished is me. The main engine is done, I just have to polish it and add the sexiness which is usually the best part.

I know this game might completly flop, it's probably not the type of game many people want to play - but it's a game i've ALWAYS wanted to play, and thus I will always work night and day to finish it because it's not about the money or the success. It's about unleashing my creativity in it's entirety and putting it into somthing that I can give to people so that they can enjoy it too.
