Recording is expensive, so please help us fund our first full length record. Thank you!!
Whether you’ve been with us from November 30, 2011 when we unleashed our first single “I Slept With All Your Mothers” or you were just turned on to our band, we want to start by thanking everyone for what was an amazing first year for Harriet. Via Kickstarter and the support of our friends and family, earlier this year we were given the opportunity to travel to Austin, TX to showcase our music at South By Southwest. Since then we’ve completed a very successful month-long residency at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, toured the west coast with A.C. Newman, and supported bands we love.
Everything above leads us to where we are now… It's time to make a Record! We couldn't be more excited to make this dream a reality and deliver a great record. If you’ve enjoyed our music in the past, and you have the means, we would LOVE your support towards this goal. In the spirit of full transparency we’ve broken down all of the costs associated with making this record below.
$6k is our minimum to record anything. But to really make this record rightwere probably gonna need upwards of $15-20k.
Here's how it breaks down:
Studio: 21 days at the Hangar Studios in Sacramento @$200 per day
Food: for 5 from trader joes (We will cook to save you money) $
Producer: We're working with our good friend Sean O'Brien who also produced our debut EP. We need to pay him for his expertise and cover his travel expenses to get him from NYC to Sacramento. $$
Mixing: If push comes to shove we can Mix the record ourself, but a well mixed record is EVERYTHING... And a good mixer is not cheap. Even if we're able to pull a "friend rate" we're talking hundreds of dollars per song. So for a 10 song record... $$$
Mastering: Cost (estimate) $100-250 per song... So $1k-2.5k
Packaging and Manufacturing: This is totally dependent on what we raise. CD's aren't too bad, but Vinyl is more expensive and we'd obviously love to make vinyl if we can. $ - $$$
Art: We know a lot of talented artists who we would love to employ for your aesthetic pleasure. $$
These last two costs outlined are extras and will only be thought about if we can fund everything listed above. It's important for you to know that NONE of this money will be going into anybody's pocket... but rather will be directed towards what we hope will be a record that you love and feel proud of supporting.
If, and only if we can raise enough to make this record will we rent a few extra pieces of gear that, while not necessary, we feel would greatly enhance the sound of the music we will deliver to you. And then after that... Music Videos.
Synths We need to rent or find a few pieces of gear. A Roland Jupiter 6, a Casio DG-1, A drum machine and some sort of analog sequencer, i.e.: Korg SQ-10.
Music Videos We want to make one for every song. We feel that the visual component often completes a record. It expands the world of the songs. If you want to see what we can do in this regard, check out our video for "I Slept with all your Mothers" which we made for a little more than $1k which goes to show how efficient we can be with your money.
We couldn't be more excited to bring you this record. Thank you so much for joining us in this ambitious undertaking and supporting art. We can't do it without you.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The only obstacles we can really see are limits. Theres no way we are not making this record, but how far we can go is all dependent on how much we can raise. i.e.: Can we print vinyl? Can we use the mixing engineer that we really want? etc.
We can tell you that we are determined and if we end up constrained by budget, we will be creative in working around it. Thanks!
