A sketch comedy BFA capstone project from Emerson College about criminal detention.
About the project:
“Holding Cell” is a unique BFA capstone project from Emerson College, and is the first sketch comedy film to come out of the BFA program. Emerson’s comedy scene is unlike that of any other college campus, with seven sketch and improv troupes. The school’s hilarious alumni include Denis Leary, Jay Leno, Henry Winkler, and Steven Wright. Director Jeremy Sender, a member of Jimmy’s Traveling All-Stars comedy troupe, hopes to uphold Emerson’s comedy tradition. The project is currently in development with plans to shoot in June and be released in December. With your support we can follow our timeline and further this project to completion.
UPDATE: The Civil Slingers, an incredible Boston-based band, has officially signed on to score the film! Your donation will help fund all-new original music from the group.
"Holding Cell" is the story of five criminals: Charlotte Goodman, Joe Irving, Sadie Bishop, Gary Williams, and Marvin Potts. Charlotte is an activist who can't distinguish the line between her first amendment rights and harassment. Joe is an 18-year-old frat guy who desperately tries to overcome his fear of beer. Sadie is an animal lover who will go to any means necessary to fulfill her childhood dream of owning a puppy. Gary is a big time bank robber who thinks that simply using a gun is cliché. Marvin is the neighborhood hobo who claims that he robbed a lady after helping her give birth. The film follows the hilarious circumstances of how each of these characters come together one night in a holding cell.
Ellen Dickson was raised on a small ranch in Reno, NV, and is a producer of "Holding Cell." With a love of business and creativity she jumped right into producing and has produced about 20 student films for Emerson College. She worked in Los Angeles, interning at Thunder Road Films and Far Hills Pictures in order to learn more about the development process. She is currently a senior film production major at Emerson with a minor in business
Jeremy Sender is the director and head writer of “Holding Cell.” As a film production major at Emerson College he has worked on over 20 student films, and won an EVVY Award for his work in 2011. He is also a member of Jimmy's Traveling All-Stars comedy troupe, and has written and filmed dozens of comedy sketches. He also thinks that your hair looks nice today.
David Fonseca, born and raised in Miami, FL, studies producing for film & television at Emerson College. He’s had experience producing music videos and shorts for Mupalia Pictures, a Miami-based production company, and is the current booking manager for Wax On Felt, Emerson’s only record label. His hair looks nice today.
