About this project
The Goal: A coffee table book featuring photographs of poops I have left on hotel beds around the world, accompanied by anecdotes about each.
This a study in human behavior. The themes presented in the anecdotes and short essays accompanying my photographs will delve into anthropological, sociological and psychological themes. I need to travel to different regions and explore different cultures, to be able to accurately portray how the hospitality service views and reacts to an accidental poop left in a bed. I will be sampling reactions in motels, hotels, high end establishments and resorts around the world.
Please keep in mind, I will not be making a mess of the hotel room. The poop will be left neatly in the center of the bed and uncovered so as not to startle or shock the chambermaid. I will leave a note explaining a stomach condition, food poisoning or allergic reaction and offer my sincerest apologies. I will also leave a moderate-to-large gratuity for their troubles. The difference in the gratuity amount will give me another variable to work with when studying any staff behavior.
I will then document any reaction by the establishment -- any change in attitude toward me by the maids, any additional cleaning fees added to my bill or anything else that may come up.
The end result of my travels and experience will be a hardcover coffee table book with full color, artistic photographs of my poops and an essay about each one. The subject matter of these essays will mostly be determined by the situations that present themselves once the poop is discovered but my goal is to provide entertaining and informative analysis of each incident.
The funds needed represent my travel and accommodation costs, as well as gratuities, needed to experiment with a large enough sample size to complete this book. I also need to purchase a camera.
Any funds raised beyond the goal will be used as additional gratuities for the chambermaids.
