HARMON is a twenty-minute narrative short film, a truly independent, nearly zero-budget project made by a cast and crew of just six professionals in our spare time.  The movie’s all shot and edited, and now we need your help to wrap it up and get it out there.

What is the movie about?

A middle-aged man is stranded when his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. A young hiker happens by and offers to lead the way cross-country to a nearby town. But the walk becomes an ordeal in the heat and rough terrain, driving the men to exhaustion and a bitter showdown.

What’s the money for?

We made this movie for next to nothing, and most of the cast and crew have donated their time and hard work for free.  But some of the final necessary stages of the filmmaking process are the most expensive.  We need to raise finishing funds – $9,500 for sound mixing, color correction, publicity, and festival submissions.

What if we don’t reach our goal in time?

Argh! The worst-case scenario. This is an all-or-nothing deal. The project won’t get any money – even what’s already been pledged – if we don’t reach our target by the deadline. That’s just the way Kickstarter works. If we fail, the pledges are all voided, no money changes hands, no rewards get sent.  It’s supposed to motivate us all, so OK, we’re motivated, and we hope you are too!

Can we raise more than our goal?

We sure can! Any surplus funds will go directly into submitting to more festivals and improving the film’s promotion and outreach, getting it out to more screens and expanding its potential audience.

Will the amount I pledge be public?

No.  We’ll know the amount, but no one else will.  Your Kickstarter username will be listed under the blue “Backers” tab above, but the amount you pledge will be confidential.  You can even be somewhat anonymous depending on what you choose for your Kickstarter username.

When will I receive my rewards?

After the deadline passes and the funds are transferred, we will contact you for your address and start shipping rewards right away.  DVDs and Blu-rays will go out later – most festivals won’t accept films that are available on disc, so we’ll wait until the end of our festival run to ship.  You’ll still get yours before anyone else does, and we promise it will be worth the wait!

Can I do anything else to help?

Yes!  Please spread the word – email this page link to your friends and family, link to it on Facebook and Twitter, talk it up and keep the buzz going.  This campaign is all about the size and strength of the network we are creating together.

Can I increase my pledge amount after I've made it?

Yes, please!  If you're signed into your Kickstarter account and you've already donated, there will be a blue "Manage Your Donation" button on this page.  Click it to enter a new amount and choose a new reward!

Who's in the cast and crew?

The movie stars Don R. Williams and Michael Kalkanis. Director of Photography, Cortney Hamilton.  Additional Photography, Lincoln Else and Josh Peterson.  Sound Design & Mix, Jamie Branquinho and Jim LeBrecht at Berkeley Sound Artists.  Written, Produced, Directed & Edited by Josh Peterson.

How can I learn more?

Follow our Facebook page here.  You can also send a message to us directly by clicking the “Contact me” link next to Josh’s photo at the top right of this page or the blue "Ask A Question" button down below.  We'll gladly answer any questions we can.

Risks and challenges

Honestly, not much can go wrong at this stage – the movie's mostly done. Festivals can be unpredictable in their selection decisions (we've been through this process before), but that's why we're applying to as many as we can. We'll get this movie out there!
