We have created a modular gear kit for fun mechanical exploration and building. Help us buy an injection mold by pre ordering your own Gear Time kits or by donating Gear Time kits to you local school, museum or hospital!
About Us and How We Got Started
Gear Time has been a dynamic, community driven project that was started in Chattanooga Tennessee. It all started two years as concept for a fun activity in which kids could build their own cars and race them. The idea finally came to light as the advent of 3D printing took Chattanooga by storm. We are very fortunate as a community to have public access to several 3D printers through our public library and university systems.
Using public resources, we made several versions of 3D printed and 2d laser-cut race cars: The Maker Racers. This is our humble beginning. A lot of effort has gone into bringing us from there to where we are now.
Then, we worked hard to make new versions that looked good and performed well.
Our Gear Time Kits
This led us to our current project, the modular gear gear system Gear Time was based on lessons learned form the Maker Racer. It can be used to make race cars, or any thing else that you like. We ave gotten a lot if great feedback, but we need to move from 3D printing to injection molding if we are going to fill out orders. We are asking for the kickstarted community to help us buy an injection mold by pre ordering Gear time kits:
Risks and challenges
We need to by an injection mold and start injection molding our parts to that we can supply maker racer parts and kits to our customers. Our design is complete, we just need to get the industrial process going. There are always risks involved, but we have spent a lot of time developing using 3D printers, so risk has been minimized.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
