Aloha Everyone,
Welcome to the fundraising page for my one-woman performance!
This piece is inspired by my past work of teaching dance and yoga to adolescent women. In these wonderful young women I recognized that something was missing. I saw them questioning whether it was acceptable to look inside of themselves and wonder if what they saw was okay. I saw a fear of trusting themselves, their pleasures, their passions and their power. Therefore, I feel highly motivated to share a joyful perspective of empowerment that they can relate to.
Over the past three months, I have been choreographing, writing, collaging and creating this new one-woman performance piece entitled, You are the Song You've Been Waiting For. It tells the story of a young woman with lollipop lungs that have dried out, making her mute. So, a wise whale woman finds her, recognizes her ailment and her cure, and that is to eat her. Once swallowed, the young woman embarks on an adventure of self-discovery, encountering many entities on her way who reveal her own hidden powers to her. It is a tale of questioning, acceptance, healing, inspiration and empowerment. It is a story that I am passionate about sharing, so I am asking for your help in sharing it.
I decided early on that I wanted to take a different approach to creating this work. My past two efforts have been created amidst a series of eclectic rehearsal and performance spaces. While I am very proud of each of these projects, I regret that I have not been able to truly develop a dance piece with my visual art projections, nor have I been able to utilize a performance studio to showcase my work to a larger audience.
Until now.
I have recently received a residency space in Barcelona, Spain, and would like to utilize this opportunity to its fullest potential by producing my performance, and eventually touring and submitting my work to various festivals.
In order to make this dream a reality, I need your support.
I have created an absolutely bare bones budget that includes the residency space rental, technical equipment for visual art projections, sound recording, lighting and costume design, and more.
As the show grows, it requires some lovin'. For that lovin' to happen I need some lovin' from y'all.
I'm giving away all kinds of cool stuff to show my appreciation. If you can contribute any amount I will send you a digital copy of one of the collages found in the piece. For contributions of fifteen dollars or more you will receive an exclusive "backer only" digital dance clip. This clip is not in the final performance, but is a prequel to the story. For a twenty-five dollar donation, you will receive a DVD of the live performance. If you are inclined to contribute more, you could be the proud owner of one of my knitted hats, have your name hidden in one of the collage projections, or even name the main character in the show. There's more, but should I go on?
Please check out the reward details. I am grateful for donations in any amount. If you are unable to donate and want to help, please spread my message and goal by sharing this site with your loved ones. The more people involved, the more meaningful the show becomes.
Thanks everybody. As always, you rock.
Aurora.
P.S. Here is a clip from the beginning stages of the performance, followed by some photos... enjoy :)
