"No President, Academy, Court of Law, Congress or Senate on this earth has the knowledge or power to decide what will be the knowledge of tomorrow." - Wilhelm Reich, Contact With Space
Wilhelm Reich in Hell is a musical following the death and rebirth of famed psychologist, Wilhelm Reich. Proceeding through the structure (Bardos) of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, It takes the form of a clown-court in, something resembling, Hell – presided over by a Ringmaster, with Leopold Von Masoch and the Marquis de Sade as the prosecution – their main aim being to cure Reich of his delusion that humanity is suffering from a disease primarily caused by the emotional repression each of us cage ourselves in, in order to maintain the mask of social normalcy.
Originally written by Robert Anton Wilson and released in 1987. We have been given permission to put on a re-imagining of the original play next year. With our first 3 days being the 21st to 23rd April at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
We will also be following up our premier with dates in a number of theatres in the West Yorkshire and Manchester through May. We will then follow this up with a Uk tour after summer. Dates and venues to be confirmed.
State of The Mind
Wilhelm Reich in Hell is strongly tied to matters of mental health. Many of the people involved in the play have had their own struggles with mental health also. It is because of this we have decided to donate 5% of all box office takings to local mental health charities.
So where do I come in?
2 Pomme D'Or 3 Productions (companies house number: 09646057) is a newly formed business, bringing together skilled actors, musicians, circus performers, set designers and various talented people.
While we have access to a wide array of talented individuals what we do not have is a wide array of funds. By raising £6000 through kickstarter we will be able to cover the main costs leading up to launching the play. Such As:
- Rehearsal times for actors and performers,
- Materials and labour for set building,
- Music Composition,
- Securing other venue bookings,
- and various other related costs.
In addition to covering main costs, £6000 will allow us to apply for funding from Arts Council England. This funding would allow us to cover more time for rehearsals and to allow a bigger budget for music, set design, costumes and props. Most importantly of all it will allow us to guarantee equity rates of pay (as advised by UK Theatre Association) to everyone involved. Ensuring we can rewards the hard work of everyone involved.
So what's in it for me?
We have thought long and hard about rewards for supporting us. We have tried to find a balance between offering something special to those who help without losing focus on the actual play. Our rewards are offered in a number of care packages ranging from £5 to £500. The rewards we offer are as follows:
We have a local talented graphic designer hard at work creating posters, a new logo and various other bits of artwork for the play. From £5 and above you will receive high quality copies of all digital artwork created for the play.
Behind The Scenes Stuff
During preparation and production there will be numerous photos and clips taken. While we plan on using these to update backers on how things are progressing we will also provide a high quality download of behind the scenes stuff for backers of £5+
Digital Copy Of Play Recording
Here is where things start to get interesting. We will be recording one of the days at the carriageworks theatre and releasing it on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download for those who are unable to make the show and those who want a memento.
For those donating £10+ you will receive a digital copy of the recording of the play after it has been edited in June 2016.
DVD/Blu-Ray - Fundraiser Edition
As above but in physical form. Our first run of physical copies will be a fundraiser exclusive version with a custom cover and a couple of exclusive extras. The standard DVD and Blu-Ray version will be available for sale afterwards but this is your chance to get the exclusive version with the copy of the play before anyone else.
Posters - Fundraiser Edition
Who doesn't love a high quality poster? We are having three separate posters designed to promote the play. Depending on how much you support you will either get a single poster (we will ask you which one you would like when we confirm your address) or all three. The posters will be available in A2 and A1 format depending on tier chosen.
As with DVD/Blu-Ray these posters will be exclusive fundraiser edition. Available to backers only and shipped first.
Title In Video Credits
Who doesn't want their name in the credits of a movie? From £30+ we will put your name in the credits with a title of our choosing. Want to be in the credits as an Executive Tartan Painter or Apprentice Cat herder? Now is your chance!
Bedtime Story from Director
Exclusive to exclusive £69 reward tier. In a bet between the director and producer to see if anyone picks it. Pick the £69 reward tier and director of the play Jaz Rhodes will ring you up and read you a bedtime story. Available in a choice of family friendly and family unfriendly themes.
Big Box Of Merch Care Package
There are many more things we considered offering as rewards. Such as mugs, tshirts, branded condoms, etc. We decided however that this may overcomplicate the fundraiser and bog us down in handling merch instead of focusing on the play.
So as a special reward for diehard backers who pick the £230+ tier we will give you a box full of various bit of merch not available to anyone else. The contents of the box will be decided once we know how many we are putting together but everything inside will be an exclusive version. Think Loot Crate for discordians.
Ok, you love the book, you love the play, you love us! You want to give £500+ and we have a special reward for you. You will get a guaranteed ticket to 23rd April 2016 show at Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds. You will get a guaranteed ticket to the official afterparty. You will get VIP treatment for both and get to hang out with the talented people behind the play.
Note: Please only pick this tier if you will have a reasonable way of getting to Leeds on 23rd April.
Risks and challenges
As with any large undertaking there will be risks and challenges. But as the famous saying goes, the show must go on. Most of the people involved with this project are experienced in their field with real project experience. Both the Director and Producer have experience being involved in large projects which have suffered setbacks but still had a deadline to hit.
Collectively we have a lot of experience in dealing with the unknown when it comes up. We will do our best to avoid complications and setbacks. If setbacks do become unavoidable (e.g. delays in shipping rewards) we will let our backers know as soon as we have confirmed it. Ultimately we believe informing backers of delays costs nothing but is worth everything.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
