Once upon a time.....
there was a man who loved tabletop roleplaying games. He took great joy in the freedom they provided, creating countless tales of danger, intrigue, and romance in the fifth edition of his favorite fantasy RPG. Over time, he adapted a variety of modern-day mechanics to empower players and game masters to explore a vast array of themes, emotions, and narratives in GrymmWorld; a new campaign setting for 5E. Inspired by fairy tales and other touchstones that shaped his artistic sensibilities. GrymmWorld brings dark and whimsical fantasy to your gaming table. We are proud to present Grant Ellis' grand vision for GrymmWorld to the tabletop role-playing game community. Together with your support, Grant's inspired writing, and our management, we can create one of the most unique and wonderful campaign settings to ever appear in Fifth Edition.
This book offers both Players and Dungeon Masters a new way to experience 5th Edition, altering the core rules to facilitate powerful storytelling that makes you feel like you are playing (or running!) an adventurous fairy tale. GrymmWorld is a strange place; full of danger, whimsy, and peculiarity. It is all great fables brought to life and woven seamlessly together by the exceptional talent producing this book. GrymmWorld is about rediscovering your childhood and unleashing your inner muse. How all of this is accomplished is something we look forward to showing you once the book is complete, but for a awesome first look you can check out our three previews showcasing the lore and mechanics of GrymmWorld below!
Collaborative Storytelling. Grymmworld is built from the ground up to encourage Players and Dungeons Masters to work together for the good of their game's story. While Players will find their campaign characters equipped with unique tools that bring their character to life, the signature component of this principle in GrymmWorld is the mysterious Narrador.
The Narrador is a special character in GrymmWorld; that assumes the role as the steward of stories! This entity challenges the characters of the world to live a life that is extraordinary, invoking a move-set as mercurial as their motives. These narrative pushes can either help and hinder the adventuring party based on the type of story the players are actively engaged in. While playing this character a Dungeon Master benefits from storytelling guidelines that both shape the narrative and form a powerful social contract with their Players in the form of Narrative Masks the DM must wear (metaphorically, but also quite literally if you have the props for it!).
- The Mask of Battle: Stories of warfare, monster slaying, and dungeon delving. When the DM puts on this mask, the Players know that combat will be an essential part of their game that day.
- The Mask of Intrigue: Stories of sedition, betrayal, and solving mysteries. When the DM dons this mask, Players should expect the unexpected and be prepared to solve dastardly puzzles.
- The Mask of Compassion: Stories of romance, friendship, and personal drama. Not every problem can be solved with sword and spell. While wearing this mask a game in GrymmWorld becomes about role playing and social experiences.
- The Mask of Truth: Stories of hope, exploration, and long journeys. When exploration and adventure are at hand, it is because the DM wears the Mask Of Truth. Players should always be looking toward the horizon or for when opportunity strikes.

Creative Freedom. GrymmWorld features a unique character creation system, the Character Path. This system allows you to present the identity of your character with an emphasis on freedom and self-expression. Your physical traits, heritage, and descriptors all come together to create a character that is compatible with any fifth edition fantasy game, while highlighting their individuality and originality. Whimsical lore Inspired By Your Favorite Fables. GrymmWorld is a fully envisioned campaign setting that adds an adventurous RPG twist to many of your favorite tall tales from the works of the Brother Grimm, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Anderson, and many more. This theme is complimented by years of Grant Ellis' devious brainstorming, ensuring that the GrymmWorld incarnation of these stories are thrilling and memorable at every turn. A world wrought by forces from the fell-beyond and struggling to escapes the darkness of its past, GrymmWorld places a game within its most pivotal era where adventurers are sorely needed.
This project is focused on the continent of Prometerra, a wild and dangerous land with people passionately divided by conflicting ideologies . The Narrador has taken a particular interest in the affairs of Prometerra, though to what end none can say... To discover what exciting stories can be told in the first of what we hope will be many realms of GrymmWorld, check out our Adventuring in GrymmWorld preview PDF! (Coming Soon!)
Grant Ellis has been an active author and designer for multiple tabletop role-playing games. His work has been featured on over thirty Twitch channels. He has a background in motion pictures and television. This is his fourth project with 2c Gaming and first published work as lead designer. Lead Artist: Samantha Darcy.
Crafted from only the finest twigs and glamours, Samantha Darcy was well-nurtured in exchange for her father’s freedom. She was beloved by all her neighbors, though her presence would frighten the livestock and cause the room to chill. The families would vie for her attention on the hot summers’ days, and found they preferred the taste of soured milk. Samantha saw her first artistic inspiration behind their straining smiles, and delighted in drawing all their prettiest nightmares.
An illustrator for tabletop roleplaying games, Samantha has risen far above those humble beginnings. She has contributed to works both great and small, including the Uncaged Anthology, Rolled & Told, and countless commissions. She currently labors on the Adventurer’s Fashion Primer, a book sorely needed by creatures of every type.
Samantha lives in a tower of toadstools and teeth, located somewhere in the strange wilds of Indiana. She dwells there with her loving husband — a musical clockwork filled with bartered voices, and their darling son — who she made herself, using only the finest twigs and glamours.

For those with a fondness for adventuring in the digital realm, GrymmWorld exists in an ideal format. This Hi-Res PDF will be fully searchable and ideal for those who game on Roll20 or use digital readers. Post Kickstarter the PDF will be valued at $20.

Not only does this reward tier provide you with that experience, but you receive a free PDF copy for all your gaming needs.

GrymmWorld has room to grow! So far the following stretch goals are known to expand what the book has to offer. However, rumor has it that there is even more to discover...
Questing Beasts (UNLOCKED)
Within GrymmWorld there lies legendary beasts, sought by heroes of all stripes, but never caught. These are the questing beasts, living heroic trials that push adventurers to their limits. Each region in GrymmWorld will recieve one Questing Beast thematic to its setting. Such a creature is the ultimate plot hook, a living piece of GrymmWorld for the Players emotionally bond with while questing for the beast!
The Sapphire Depths ($36,000)
Deep within the fathomless lake surrounding the Shining city is a realm of shifting blues and shimmering light. Known as the Sapphire Depths, few of GrymmWorlds inhabitants even know of the secret kingdom from before the Fell-Beyonders. It awaits discovery by daring adventurers, but none can say what such heroes may find in its mercurial waters.
Artifacts of GrymmWorld ($42,000)
Grymmworld is no stranger to artifacts of power. Within Prometerra there can be found items of astounding power and legendary lore. Excalibur, the Wand Of the Fairies, and Grandfather's Scythe are but a few of the wondrous artifacts rumored to be hidden about the land, waiting to be discovered.
Should we reach these lofty heights, there are more goals yet available to expand GrymmWorld to its full potential!
As our printer has print facilities all around the world, including Europe, and Australia, all the books that we print and ship as part of the Kickstarter will be printed & shipped regionally, rather than internationally, saving you a ton of money on both shipping and customs. In most areas outside the U.S., the printer will ship directly to you. Shipping fees will be collected through Backerkit after the Kickstarter campaign ends. Here are our estimated shipping costs based on a 3 lb. book:
- United States, United Kingdom, EU, Australia - $7
- Canada/NZ - $13
- Everywhere else - $25
Because we're still a small company, we can't afford to keep our books warehoused internationally, so this low shipping rate is only available as part of this Kickstarter, as well as for any books pre-ordered before the book's release. After GrymmWorld is released, all books will be shipped from our HQ in the U.S., meaning all shipping outside of the US will be closer to the $25 listed above.
2CGaming has been producing 5th Edition content since 2014. In that time we have successfully Kickstarted and delivered eight projects with your help, including such titles as:
- Tyrants And Hellions
- Total Party Kill Handbook Vol 1&2
- Total Party Kill Bestiary Vol 1
- Fate of the Forebears Adventure Path: Domes of Ishaq-Zahur, City Of Sands, and Lion's Vault
- Epic Legacy Core Rulebook
- Epic Legacy Campaign Codex
Suffice it to say, this isn't our first rodeo when it comes to making high quality 5th Edition content through Kickstarter support. Many of the same people who have brought these acclaimed books to 5th Edition will be on the front lines when it comes to designing GrymmWorld.
We have always been a small team of dedicated creators and with that team comes a passion for our craft that can only be matched by our expertise with 5th Edition. This is our first time having an outside author lead a project of ours, but our years spent working with Grant have shown just how exceptional his work is and deserving of its own book.
Risks and challenges
2CGaming has now successfully delivered on eight Kickstarters as detailed above. We are currently in production of a single book: The Epic Legacy Campaign Codex, which is using an almost entirely different team to avoid overlap. When it comes on making books, we know how to deliver. However...
We are a small team with usually a single person handling each step of the development process. That means if we lose a staff member to the hurricane of life or suffer other personal complications, our process can bottleneck considerably. We have expanded our team to avoid this problem as much as possible, and have given ourselves a generous amount of time to complete the project, with the hope we can finish it far sooner than expected. In the past our projects have been delayed for these reasons, and we want to have full transparency about this fact and also about what steps we are taking to prevent similar issues on this project.
Grant Ellis is a tried and true RPG writer who we have been working with steadily over the past couple years to ensure that when he writes a book for 2CGaming, we can both respect his vision and keep the high quality standards 2CGaming is known for.
As with all Kickstarters, the possibility of unforeseen complications exists. 2CGaming has kept lines of communication open and active to ensure our backers are made aware of any such incidents. We will ensure that first - the project is delivered in entirety, secondly at high quality, and finally on-time - though we strive for all of these in all of our projects.
As always, questions/comments/concerns are appreciated. You can reach out to us with any specific concerns you may have about this project via our Website or chat directly with us via Discord. Links are provided below.
