The "Traces EP" represents a departure from the jazz world and an embracing of the modern soundscape.
For the past year or so I've been writing songs in a completely different way. Instead of bringing rough drafts of my tunes into my band in order to hear how they sound, I've been making my own demos in Ableton on my computer, making my own sounds, and programming or playing all the instruments. I then used these sketches as a template and brought them to my producer friends Ivan Jackson and JNTHN STEIN and we slowly began layering over my rough ideas with their own ideas and then incorporating the musicians in my live band. Realizing my songs with the input of their production styles has brought my music to this unlikely intersection of indie rock, electronic music and jazz, which is secretly what I always wanted.
This process has been a great change from the nature of completely live recording sessions, giving me the time to reflect, think on the music and really decide what the track needs before adding additional ingredients. We wanted to embrace more elaborate modern production techniques without giving up the heart and soul of true artistic expression, or the simplicity of storytelling through song.
The Traces EP contains 5 songs, the majority of which has already been recorded and we hope to release it in spring of 2016.
But I now need your help to complete it, and do it right, so I can bring this music out into the world!
I have launched this campaign in order to fund the mixing, mastering, album art/packaging design, manufacturing, and publicity for the release. There are some really cool rewards for your support at any level, plus the feeling of being an instrumental part of this project! I hope you'll consider donating: even the smallest amount helps us get closer to our goal!
Thank you so much!
Risks and challenges
Even after this project gets funded, the process of putting the record out has its fair share of obstacles. I have to go about assembling the proper team for PR and design and hope that the caliber of work is up to my expectations. There may be differences in artistic vision with the people I bring on board to complete this project, but I am prepared to be open to suggestions while remaining clear on my vision. It is also possible that we might not receive the traction in the media that we hope, even with a solid PR team in place. It is always tough to know what public reaction will be but if there is a disappointment in that area, I will still be proud of my project and the work I've put in, regardless!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
