When from my nest of embers I arise
To soar above the world on wings of flame,
Tis hope I wish to see in mortal eyes
Not fear birthed by the whisper of my name.
Yet time and talk conspire against my kind
Paint monsters in the shadow of man's dreams
For here a noble people he might find
If he believed not all is as it seems.
Now wicked Fate decrees us bound as friends.
If one falls, then the other surely fails.
Our lives apart entangled to the end
No matter whether war or peace prevails.
My life rests in your hands, twin tethered soul,
And our worlds must survive, the halves made whole.

Welcome to the Kickstarter page for my fantasy novel, The Dragon Undone!
Some of you may recognize the title, and there's a reason for that. Back in 2006, I sold the first version of this book to a small electronic publisher. Though they were enthusiastic and I was excited to have made a sale, we eventually discovered that we were not a good fit.
I've now got the rights back to the first book in what was always meant to be a trilogy and I'm ready to breathe new life into the book. I'm revising the manuscript to be a more traditional fantasy (rather than a fantasy romance). I've got a new cover artist working to give the novel an updated look -- and no, it won't look like the cover in the trailer; that was just me playing! -- and I'm starting a new career.
I've got some great incentives to give you as thanks for your support, from electronic and print versions of the finished novel, to characters or places named after you and a spot on the dedication page.
None of which means that I won't be adding additional incentives as we work toward the goal. Check back and see what else I've got up my sleeve!
A brief back copy summary of the story, just to let you know where we're going:
In the winter just past, a dragon came to the village of Weld. It shattered spirits and bodies
alike. It killed Berdhan's brother. Since then, Berdhan's been more fond of
drink than company. But the dragons are back and the village is once more
looking to him to lead.
Chaia, the first female to be born to dragon-kind in centuries, is captured by
the humans while practicing her two-legged form. With Berdhan's help, she must
find her way home again, but not before they fulfill their roles in an ancient
They must unite the worlds of Dragon and Man.
NEW Goal Incentives!
ACHIEVED! If this project reaches the $1,000 mark, I will also send a short story, When the Ravens Came Ashore, immediately upon funding, to all of my backers in electronic format.
The story is about 3,500 words. It's a different take on the Morrigan, the
triple-aspected Celtic goddess of battle. And it starts like this:
Stena knew the Romans were coming. Not by
reading patterns in water or pulling out the insides of birds to murmur over. That was her brother, Olíndico's,
gift. Stena never saw portents in the clouds or heard omens on the wind. She
didn't rely on an itching in her elbows or a pricking beneath her skin.
But Stena knew the Romans were coming when
the ravens came ashore.
If we reach $2000, I will write a short story set in the world of The Dragon Undone of at least 5,000 words. Will it be about one of the main characters? Or a secondary, supporting character? I'll be posting character profiles and you will choose!
If we reach the fully funded $3000, I will write a second short story or novella set in the same world. Again, the characters to be written about will be up to you!
And if we pass the $3000 mark... well, who knows? More good things to come.
So help me reach this goal and get more stories!
Reviews for the original version of The Dragon Undone:
"Dennis hits hard with an emotional punch in this dragon tale, set in ancient times." - Faith V. Hill, RT Book Review (4 Stars)
"The Dragon Undone is a fantastic tale of understanding and love. ...I can only hope that there is another book in the works that walks us through the trials with them.
