We know a thing or two about making money clips and wallets. We're the creators of the M-Clip money clip, one of the best wallet alternatives you can buy. Our love for unique and functional money clips has inspired us to come up with something completely different, something out of our comfort zone and made in an entirely different way.
We wanted to create a money clip that was different in several ways but most importantly, super flat on the money - something much thinner than a wallet and hardly noticeable in your pocket. This meant designing a way to eliminate the tall flared lip on traditional money clips, but maintaining that thin material profile. Our idea was to incorporate an aperture or hole in the top of the clip that allows you to press the other side open far enough to get it over whatever you are carrying. We then engineered it to have a slightly raised edge that would give you grip to easily pull the Tightwad back off of the cash and cards. It's a simple design that is easy to use and creates one of the thinnest ways in the world to carry your stuff. They will be available in steel and 100% high-grade carbon fiber.
Like the M-Clip design, we engineered the Tightwad to eliminate the need for a wallet. If your money clip can only carry a few bills and you still need a separate card case, what's the point? The Tightwad is designed to hold up to 8 credit cards alone or a combination of fewer cards and a stack of bills wrapped around the cards. (Approx 6 cards + 6 bills)
That being said about card cases, we've also created a new vegan leather card case that is going to be available to work with or without the money clip. It is made from a recycled German washable craft paper that is ultra durable and will hold about six cards. The design is clean and functional, with a small hole in the bottom for pushing your cards up when needed.
Risks and challenges
Although this is a completely new product that we are developing, it is still well within our abilities and understanding of the manufacturing process. We've thoroughly investigated the potential production pitfalls and made sure that we will be able to deliver on the promises made to anyone who chooses to back this Kickstarter campaign. We hope that you feel comfortable in the fact that we've been in business making money clips and other accessories for many years. That expertise along with your help will guide us through this process so that we make good on all rewards.
We are high quality machining specialists accustomed to working with steel and aluminum, so moving into carbon fiber presents exciting new challenges for us. We've made a small pre-production test run of these to try with a few existing customers and the response has been overwhelming - now we need to step up production.
With this Kickstarter project we hope to raise the capital needed to pay for the molds and other production requirements for ramping up volume and producing these with the quality we demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
