Many revolutionary ideas in human history began as a simple conversation. Discussions where thoughts and opinions were shared and ideas emerged led to world-altering discoveries. Albert Einstein was known for spending endless hours simply thinking about ideas and then talking about them with friends and colleagues. He hosted gatherings where lively discussions led to new theories about life and how the universe works.
Earth Encounters is a board game fueled by the concept that conversations among friends ignite big ideas that not only impact our world, but make it a better place as well. Earth Encounters brings the Einstein in all of us to life. Designed for teens and adults, it’s not only fun to play, but it sparks dialog among friends, brings value to our community, and perhaps can even change our world for the better!
Earth Encounters is a simple, fun and challenging game that gives players endless potential to learn while matching wits with one another.
Years ago, not long after we first developed Earth Encounters, we became more convinced of its necessity than ever after watching a recurring segment on The Tonight Show. Remember that Jay Leno segment called “Jay Walking?” The one where he would approach random people in public places and ask them basic questions about U. S. history, world events, or other important issues? We were shocked by how much people struggled to answer the most elementary questions. Even graduating college students would draw a blank stare in response to some of the questions. It was horrifyingly funny yet unbearable to watch. We knew then Earth Encounters was the answer to our collective lack of knowledge on issues that impact our lives and our world.
To that end, we designed Earth Encounters to be completely void of trivia. Our goal with Earth Encounters is that after playing, people will feel great about the time they spent. We want people to end up with a fresh perspective on life, a deeper understanding of the past and a positive outlook on the future.
Earth Encounters’ game board represents planet Earth, with focus on the United States and the seven continents.
The game starts with the Timeship Encounter. An alien creature escaped the timeship and is hiding somewhere in the Eastern Time Zone. Encounter launches an elite team to recapture the alien creature. Players travel across the U.S. and the seven continents, competing to be the first to locate and capture the powerful yet invisible alien before it awakens and consumes all the knowledge possessed by Earth’s inhabitants. Throughout this adventure, each player learns about the states and continents as they collect as many states and continent deeds as possible – they’ll be needed when you come face-to-face with the alien creature.
Each player can only advance by correctly answering a question from the Q&A Deck or successfully completing a thought experiment from the Challenge Deck. In doing so, if they are the first to land on that particular state or continent, they are awarded a State Deed of Trust. That means the state or continent is now under the players protection from the alien.
The player who protects the state where the alien is hiding is considered the winner!

Prior to enrolling in the LMU MBA program in fall of 2013, Taylor spent three years playing basketball for LMU’s NCAA division one men’s basketball team. Taylor has been in numerous roles from serving as a legal assistant for Davies Wegner Law Offices a family-law practice, to co-founder of “Athletes-4-Athletes,” an organization dedicated towards helping athletes pursue their professional careers after competing. However, three roles that have remained constant in all his positions are leader, motivator, and facilitator of change. Taylor’s dynamic personality, intuitive communication skills, and a creative intellect have enabled him, with the help of his father to successfully develop a fun and engaging product “Earth Encounters” the board game, that will help educate friends and families in communities across the nation.

We are proud to inform you that Earth Encounters is printed, packaged, and distributed in the United States. We have secured distribution with a team of distributors, fulfillment houses and production factories that have been in business for over five decades. Our distributor is a family-run business that produces and manufactures their products locally which saves us valuable time and money. In addition, they also have a commitment to future generations by using environmentally friendly materials (such as vegetable and soy-based inks) and following sustainable manufacturing practices as much as possible. It was a win-win for us!!!
Risks and challenges
In any self-run business there is always the risk of running into challenges whether it's relying on other people to come through on time or running into issues with production. The first risk is that even we are setting our goal for $15,000, the brutal truth is that we will likely need much more than that to ensure the ability to do our first production run. However, we have concluded that if we hit our goal and fall short of our stretch goals we are prepared to go ahead and finance with our own savings to ensure the production of Earth Encounters. That is how dedicated we are to getting this game out into the world.
As for the actual production and manufacturing of the game, this is our first time doing a Kickstarter campaign so the process is fairly new to me and my father. However, I have surrounded myself with the strongest team of successful supporters who are dedicated to helping us see this dream turn to reality. In that, we feel confident going forward with this Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
