Gamble Rogers was an extraordinary storyteller, guitar picker, singer, songwriter and entertainer as well as friend and mentor to many here in beautiful St. Augustine and around the country. He left this world in October of 1991 attempting to save a drowning man and gave his life in the effort, a tragic loss. He was and remains a hero in so many ways to so many.
Through "The Oklawaha County Jamboree, A Gamble Rogers Tribute", we are endeavoring to keep the flame of his musical legacy burning brightly for the next generation of Florida musicians. This is a group effort. Tis the brainchild of Mike Lagasse, St. Augustine singer/songwriter who has felt the influence of Gamble's heritage in his own music and through the music of others. Jamie DeFrates provided the beautiful video in this project. Bob Patterson, Gamble's friend for so many years, is providing guidance through his many years in the role of Artistic Director for the Gamble Rogers Music Festival. Jim Carrick and Sam Pacetti, two of Gamble's friends and musical proteges have been involved in the development of the project goals as well.
Then there are the players. An amazing list of young Florida musicians embracing this effort with their musical prowess and bringing their best to each song they'll be recording. Chris Henry, Gabe Valla, Sam Pacetti, Aslyn and The Naysayers, Rachel Carrick, Amanda Anderson, The Rubies (Lu & Savannah Rubino), Flagship Romance, Todd & Molly Jones, The Wild Shiners, Colton McKenna, The New 76-ers, The Morse Family, The Aaron O'Rourke Trio, The Cicada Ladies, and more.....all donating their time and expertise for this dream to come true.
We are seeking to raise funds only for what we cannot do ourselves. CD artwork, musical royalties, mastering and duplication. It is a Gatorbone Studios project and will be produced by us, Lon and Lis Williamson.
Thanks for your interest and support in this heritage project in remembrance of our friend and mentor, Gamble Rogers.
Risks and challenges
Our goal is to produce the highest quality recording and CD package and booklet that we can. If we do not meet our financial goals, we are committed to releasing a version of the project as best as we are able to do so on our own. It would take a lot longer.
We are not in a position to afford the very best on our own and that is why we are seeking your help. We all feel that only the best will do to honor the memory of Gamble Rogers, our amazing friend, and that is why we are working to provide that through this fund-raising project. Thanks so much folks!!
