At Last, All is Revealed: We Are Under Contract!
First of all, I owe all of you a huge apology for the delay in publishing this anthology, and again for the lack of communication and cryptic messages regarding that delay. Now that I can finally spill the beans, I hope that you will understand why…
As of today, The Odds Are Against Us is under contract with Liberty Island Media, an independent publishing house. Our plucky collection of short stories is going to be published!
Big thank-yous to all of our wonderful authors; and thanks as well to David Swindle, managing editor for Liberty Island, who championed this anthology through the long process of getting a green light. And of course, this whole journey began with you, the awesome backers who funded the project and allowed our authors to get paid. Which brings me to my next point.
Originally, I had promised publication by the end of 2017, which would have been easy to do with my initial plan to self-publish. However, when "official" publication became a real possibility, that meant that we were now operating on Liberty Island's timetable, something I alluded to back in October 2017 with my cryptic message. Right now, we are scheduled to be published in the Fall of 2018—at which point all of you will be receiving your books, as promised.
The worst part about the last several months was not being able to tell you about what was going on, especially since I was running late on keeping my promises to you; and since we could only have done this with your support, it felt doubly bad. I hope you can agree with me, however, that Liberty Island is a much better home for the anthology than mere self-publication; at the very least, the typesetting will be done more professionally! All in all, the final product is going to be more attractive, more polished, and provide more credibility to our authors. And that means that you, dear backers, will be getting more bang for your buck. (Oh, and an obsequiously grateful mention in the Acknowledgements, of course!)
Stay tuned as we get closer to publication. I promise, it will be worth the wait.
And once again, thank you!
