Civility is a board game for 2 to 4 (or 2 to 6 with optional expansion added on) players where players get to pick a city to control. There are 5 cities to choose from in the base game - Early Men, Fantasy, Modern, Utopian, and Medieval and 2 more so far with optional add-ons - Zombie, and Clone. Each city has 4 unique abilities and different starting strengths.
A few examples -
Fantasy's magic abilities allow them to manipulate dice each turn.
Medieval was a dark time so their starting technology and health is very low but their army starts off strong.
Utopians are a peaceful and advanced bunch so their technology and education start off very high but their army is very low.
Different cities will require completely different strategies and planning. This, along with different status goals needed to win each game makes for a vastly different experience each time you play Civility. Check out our how-to play and example videos further down the page for more detailed information.
Throughout our videos and images you'll see lots of dice on all of the city boards. This is done in our prototypes to keep track of department levels. In the actual printed version of the game each city board will have dials integrated that will keep track of department levels.
Kickstarter Exclusive Status Card!
The Kickstarter Exclusive Status card is a really fun one. The goal of this card is to lose a battle. This will be a fun little exploit on the battle system and will create some interesting situations. Video explaining more about this card and the kinds of situations it will create coming soon!

When we get 200 likes we'll add a "Black Market Trading" World Event card. Details in World Event video!
Black Market Trading Description: Starting with the player to the left of the one who drew the World Event - Each player will wager city department levels in order to win the current Status card at not additional cost. The first player can wager any number of levels, then the second players has to either beat that number or pass. This will continue until it gets back to the player that drew the card and they will have the option to beat it or give it to the highest bidder. This card cannot be used to reach status 5.

When we get 100 followers we'll add a new Action card that will allow you to mess with other cities.
Swap Department Levels in Another City Description: Play this card and choose any city other than yours to swap one department level with another department level. Eg. Government is currently level 5 and Education is currently level 2. After swapping, Government is now level 2 and Education is now level 5.

Father Geek's Review of Civility
"This is a really good game that wants you to be a good player – and if you aren’t – chews you up and spits you out. I can respect that. Hell, I admire it."
"Pure awesome. And there’s a lot of replayability, too. Each City and Player board set has a very different feel to it which makes your choices different. Depending on what City board you are playing, you won’t necessarily care about certain Departments, but that’s part of the fun of managing your civilization."
"For the Gamer Geeks? This is going to be gold. There’s a lot going on in Civility that will appeal to some of the most elite of elitists."

Our local news station did a story on Civility. See the article and watch the video here.
Note that all artwork is still in progress and some in very early stages
Early on, the humans showed promise. The Creators saw them looking to the stars and dreaming of other planets even in their infancy. Their lust for conquering and exploration propelled them through the ages. The inspired Creators placed bets on when humans would leave their origin planet of earth, and spread their burning curiosity and limitless imagination throughout the universe.
When the Utopians became the dominant civilization on earth, the Creators thought they would be the ones to lead humanity to the stars. They did exactly the opposite. They used their advanced technology to heal the earth, and to explore every inch of the oceans and mountains. They solved energy crises, eliminated warfare, and found sensible, lasting ways to manage human population and growth.
It was the most boring time to watch humans ever.
One day, the Creators noticed something that horrified them. With 100,000 years left in the sun’s life cycle, the Utopians began construction on creating a renewable organic sun.
If humans never left earth, the rest of the galaxy would remain uneventful for eternity. Convinced that any other civilization would have left earth, and hoping to reignite humanity’s imagination and lust for exploration, the Creators untethered the earth from the constraints of linear time revealing the entire human existence to itself.
On Earth, blue flashes of lightning formed wavering portals that appeared in all directions on the horizon. They were celestial gateways that didn’t open to heaven or space, they opened to all the times and realms of the earth. All memories of past civilizations and dreams of future ones were instantly replaced with an unresolved truth. The truth that whatever happened next, would become the way things had always been and always would be. The history of all civilizations on earth was eradicated by the blue light, and in the confusion, one thing was clear.
Whoever emerged victorious in this unworldly conflict would shape the fate of all human existence.
The Creators had finally found something worth betting on.

Want more than 4 copies of the game? Contact us and we'll add a new pledge level for you!
We really wanted a lower funding goal but the $29,000 needed is the lowest amount it takes to get 1500 units produced (the minimum allowed), to ship from the factory to us, and then to ship from us to you. We own many games that have been produced by Panda and their quality is top notch. We have put a lot of thought into each component of the game and tried our hardest to ensure everything works, looks, and feels great together to allow for a really fun experience that will last the years!
We took Civility to PAX East:
Our short pitch:
Want to win free shirts?
It's nerve-racking launching a Kickstarter!
Risks and challenges
Others in the Kickstarter community have been extremely gracious in fully answering in detail all the questions we had about pricing and figuring out shipping and pledge levels. We also were lucky to be able to attend the PAX East convention in Boston where we had even more of our questions and concerns answered by some of the amazing Kickstarter panels there. We feel like we've been meticulous in planning and thinking ahead, but of course things will always come up, and since this is our first project we know there will be challenges that we might not see coming with game manufacturing and shipping.
One challenge we have right now is our funding goal is high. We really wanted a lower funding goal for our first project, but we realized in order to make absolutely sure we would be able to produce and ship the games based on all the quotes we got from Panda and advice we got from other designers, we had to set the goal higher than we wanted. We didn't want to cut back on cards or any other elements of the game, or set a low price just to make sure we could get funded. We set the goal at an amount we can successfully produce and ship the quality game that we imagined in our designing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
