Introducing ScatterBlocks, our newest 3d printable, modular terrain system!

You can find this set, Cyclopean Stone, for free download on Thingiverse now.

Because they set up/take down like building blocks, ScatterBlocks are perfect for quickly setting up terrain for RPG encounters (each block fitting neatly into a standard 1" grid map), throwing down some (destructible?) scatter terrain for your wargaming needs, or just building elaborate play sets for your favorite toys.

ScatterBlocks are sized to fit neatly on standard 1" (dry erase or otherwise) grid maps.

By supporting this campaign at $15 or higher, you'll receive sets in three textures: Stone, Wood, and Tech (with options for just fantasy or sci-fi appropriate blocks also available at lower levels), and will include a few add-ons like doors, windows, pillars, bridges, and stairs. This campaign is for digital rewards (STL files), so you'll need to have access to a 3d printer to make these. We'll have plenty of stretch goals available, opening up a new textures as we go, and anyone that backs at the $20 level or higher will get every stretch goal we add.

ScatterBlocks are optimized for fast, support-free 3d printing. Print without rafts or support (at a layer height of your choosing) and quickly compile a collection. You can paint ScatterBlocks (we advise printing in black ABS or PLA to avoid having to prime) or leave them in their original colors. (Painting blocks does give them a little friction assist, however, and they will hold better.) Also, if modularity on the spot isn't your jam, you can print them and glue them together, or even just arrange and affix them in your printing program to print them in completed configurations!

If you're a Z.O.D. backer (or have picked up sets since they were released), you'll find that the blocks are ideally suited to integrate into the tile structure. ScatterBlocks are great for adding quick, destructible components to your rooms (and they should work equally well with other terrain tile systems).

On top of all of this, we're currently developing a game (Wrath & Ruin) which fuses simple miniature wargaming rules with, er... physics. Backers who pledge at the $25 level will (in addition to getting all the other stuff) get the play tester starter kit and become a part of our early Wrath & Ruin player community. The game uses the ScatterBlocks and also includes the files durable 3d-printable soldiers (in 28mm scale) and 3d printable boulders (for hurling and such), along with rules PDFs.

The support-free 3d printable soldiers (left) and a render of the version of the game we'll make available for Tabletop Simulator (right).

Our early play tests for Wrath & Ruin have been an absolute blast, and we're looking forward to perfecting and expanding the game with your help.

Risks and challenges

Most of the designs are complete (and currently undergoing play tests), so we should be ready to distribute rewards shortly after the campaign wraps.
