Kingdoms of Hell is a multi-media tabletop gaming project, and the newest offering from Ill Gotten Games. Whether you're interested in the roleplaying game, the wargame, or the 3d printable miniatures and terrain, this project has something for you.
THE ROLEPLAYING GAME
In the Kingdoms of Hell tabletop RPG, players will take the role of lost souls navigating the Nine Circles of Hell, fighting to hold on to the last vestiges of their humanity while they hang on the brink of damnation. A fantasy-horror experience with a high lethality rate, Kingdoms of Hell is being built with our D6Modular engine. The generic fantasy rules set (currently in beta) is available now for free on our online storefront.
THE SKIRMISH WARGAME
In the wargame, players are demonic overlords building war bands of demonic minions to challenge one another over territory, riches, and status within the Nine Circles. The skirmish wargaming rules will also be built using the D6Modular engine, and will be cross-compatible with the roleplaying game, allowing you to integrate the two as you see fit.
The game will be "miniatures agnostic," encouraging players to use any demonic models from their collection, regardless of the manufacturer. Full unit customization means that you'll be able to adapt the rules to fit your vision and play style. If you do happen to own a 3d printer, however...
THE 3D PRINTABLE REWARDS
This campaign offers several reward levels that will give backers access to a complete range of 3d printable files for standard scale (28mm/32mm) miniature and terrain designs. These designs are optimized for FDM machines (though work well for resin printers as well) and are designed for support-free printing! Featuring work by Dutchmogul and guest designer, Max Maurel, these models possess the same accessibility and quality that backers of our previous projects like Townsfolke and Kyn Finvara have come to know.

Kingdoms of Hell will be based on our D6Modular mechanics, so what is D6Modular, exactly?
We designed the D6Modular system to give us a unified set of mechanics for both our roleplaying and wargaming needs. We wanted something that would resolve quickly and still provide enough depth (crunch) to keep us interested. Every gaming group has its own needs in this regard, but in D6Modular, we've found a formula that keeps us engaged.
Whether roleplaying or wargaming, players use one to three 6-sided dice to make tests (with the GM also having a pair of percentile dice on hand for tables and other GM-ly duties). Characters in D6Modular have three rudimentary attributes, which are mostly used in conflicts: Power for knowing how big/strong you are, Resistance for determining toughness/damage resistance, and Speed for, well, how fast they move. Everything else is wrapped up in skills, each of which ranges from 1d6 - 3d6. Tests made using these skill dice aren't added together, instead checking each die result against another test (also 1d6 - 3d6, made by the GM or another player), with high numbers that can't be matched by the other side constituting degrees of success. Add into that special abilities that let you "bump" the dice values up or down or re-roll them entirely, and you'll get to the meat of the system.
We wanted a universal physics engine, and it's one that can be applied to any setting, making all D6Modular products cross compatible with one another. We feel that this is especially juicy when it comes to the wargaming rules, as it means you can take any miniatures from your collection (fantasy, sci-fi, whatever) and pitch them against one another. As we noted above, the core generic Fantasy rules set is available for the RPG, and we're hoping to release the fantasy wargaming rules soon, so that players will have that in addition to the Kingdoms of Hell skirmish rules (and be able to mix and match between the two).
We enjoy moving between wargaming and roleplaying sessions, seeing each as a means to integrate into a larger narrative (not to mention justify using all those miniatures), and our aim with this whole project is to have wargaming rules that, while slightly stripped down from the RPG statistics, are still useful in the RPG, and require zero effort to transfer each unit entry being useful as NPC profiles for encounters. On the flip side, the RPG characters may enter the fray during wargaming sessions.
In the Kingdoms of Hell wargame, players will customize an arch-demon and their minions using special traits and template stacking to create unique units. Any miniatures may be used with Kingdoms of Hell regardless of manufacturer (or scale, if you prefer smaller fare like 15mm).
We won't be offering any printed versions of the rulebooks during the Kickstarter campaign, though we will make versions available via a print-on-demand service, and will update backers with links as soon as the books are published.
Risks and challenges
Following our usual digital format, there are no foreseeable problems with delivering at the times promised. We're estimating that the rules PDFs will be finished by April (though could come a little earlier or a little later).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
