Introducing HANDS OF DESTINY, by ILL GOTTEN GAMES!
Hands of Destiny is an open source, quick-play tabletop roleplaying game with an emphasis on story and characters over complicated rules.
Instead of dice, Hands of Destiny utilizes decks of standard playing cards. As a player, the hand of cards you hold is used to tactically control your character's fate and the flow of the story, each value and suit being played to assist your character's actions and activate special abilities.
The rules codex is designed to accommodate any genre, and with the modular character creation system, nothing is out of reach. We wanted to make the system available to everyone, so we're releasing the beta core rules PDF for free, along with an adventure module which will give you some ideas on how the game can be played. Oh, and don't forget the character sheet! If you like the system and want to publish and even sell a module or setting book of your own, we'd love to hear from you.
The core rulebook will be a brisk read, as the final version will be clocking in under 50 pages, and will feature artwork by Ill Gotten Games regular, Cam Croft, with work from other artists to be contributed to the modules.
This campaign is to help pay our artists and make a run of printed copies of the book. We're close to the final version, but in the meantime, we're making the beta codex available as a free download, along with the beta version of The Iron Circus, a retro-fantasy, player-versus-player adventure module about a ritual tournament between barbarian warriors.
We've been having a blast play testing these rules at our own gaming table, and we're excited to be ready to give Hands of Destiny to your gaming group.
EXTRAS AND STRETCH GOALS
A big part of what we do at Ill Gotten Games is make 3D-printable games and miniatures, and we're currently amassing a virtual multiverse of printable character models which we release free to anyone who can print them. So, we'll be including a handful of randomly selected miniatures (between 5 and 10 characters) with every pledge $30 and over. We'll also include Hands of Destiny NPC stat blocks so you can plug them right into your games (or even base an adventure around the models you get).
If you select the $100 reward tier, you'll get the full $30 suite (four rulebooks, a module, and a handful of random 18mm miniatures 3D-printed by us) plus a unique 3d miniature based on descriptions that you give us (and sketches, if you have that) of your favorite RPG character. The character should be roughly human-sized (or maybe a little bigger/smaller) and will be sculpted by either myself, Jeremy Larsen, or Jonathon Sullivan. The model will be printed in 18mm scale, and will be released on Thingiverse so anyone can print one, with a special mention to you as the creator.
STRETCH GOAL 1: HEREAFTER (FUNDED!)
If we reach the $1,000 mark, we'll include a printed copy of this bonus module with every pledge of $25 and over!
Hereafter is a hard science-fiction adventure centering on the waking occupants of a massive seed ship sent to colonize a distant world. Like The Iron Circus, Hereafter offers random character creation systems (for creating futuristic colonists, in this case) and a bunch of new and pre-made content.
STRETCH GOAL 2: NPC COMPENDIUM
If we reach the $2,000 mark, we'll include a PDF copy of the Hands of Destiny NPC Compendium with the rewards for every pledge level. The Compendium will include over 100 fully fleshed out NPCs common to a number of popular genres (fantasy, science fiction, horror, et cetera) and will provide tons of new material accessible to GMs and players alike.
Risks and challenges
We're using a vetted printing process for books and models, so there really aren't any obstacles to getting this to you short of being funded.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
