Drakendar is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game designed for quick, concise gameplay and character creation. We're not reinventing the wheel with the setting, this is a meat-and-potatoes sword and sorcery world. The gameplay, however, is all new, utilizing a comparative dice mechanic (aka no math) that allows for simple, streamlined play. We wanted to minimize the time between deciding to play the game, and getting into the action. We think the Drakendar engine accomplishes this well without sacrificing too much depth in character options or uniqueness.
A wide array of character types are available, and the modular nature of the system allows you to create your own content quickly and easily as well. Featuring over twenty playable species, thirty occupations, and more than two-hundred special abilities with which to customize your character, Drakendar offers a veritable buffet of fantasy role-playing options.
The rules cover everything from crafting, to diplomacy, to large-scale warfare, and everything in between. If you can do it in the real world, you can do it in Drakendar... plus more!
Drakendar also features an innovative, card-based magic system whereby sorcerers may build spells on the fly. These spells can be written on note cards, or you can print them from the book (or PDF) and cut them out.
Fast, simple, and empowering, Drakendar is a great option for first-time and life-long gamers alike. All you need to play is a couple of ten-sided dice (mostly for percentile tests made by the GM) and a grip of six-sided dice.
The miniatures shown in the video (aside from the bad guys, by the amazing Reaper Miniatures) were designed by us here at Ill Gotten Games, and will be available as backer rewards (though will arrive unpainted).
All of the map tiles and terrain blocks you see in the video are available as a free download and may be printed by anyone with access to a 3D printer. You can find these on the Thingiverse, along with other models and game supplements designed by Dutchmogul and other Ill Gotten Games developers. These game accessories are totally optional, though you may find that using these (or even versions cut out of paper) can greatly assist in your adventuring.
In addition to the other rewards, Cameron is producing an extensive series of print-and-play character stands and modular terrain tiles that will come as a PDF along with all pledges $10 and higher.
Also, if you want a more in-depth look at how gameplay works, tune in to our podcast, Lost Agency Archives. We're taking a break from our regular, ongoing Wayfarer campaign to devote a few episodes to our Drakendar play tests, starting with session one, "The Gilded Willow."
We had a great time with our first campaign, Wayfarer: Things Beyond Wonder, and we hope you choose to make our new product, Drakendar, a reality as well.
Risks and challenges
The Drakendar rules codex is in production, and pretty soon we'll be ready to publish. As backers, you'll help us achieve that.
All things considered, we think that three months from the campaign end date should be plenty of time for us to get our ducks in a row and get your products sent. Expect more model options to be added as the campaign goes on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
