When the world was young, the dwarves were masters of the mountain realms. Favored by the gods, they watched over all as the clay of creation cooled. Great cities were built beneath the mountain peaks and none could contend with the might of dwarven rule.
Theirs was a knowledge of creation closest to that of the gods. As time passed, the dwarves become covetous of these secret arts. Doors were closed to outsiders, and the dwarves warred with one another until the Clan of the Downward Sky ruled supreme over the mountain holds. They became the keepers of the All Forge, a powerful artifact from which all things within that realm had been wrought.
Watching as the hearts of their brethren darkened in the shadow of this power, the wright-priests took control of the All Forge. Using its immense power, they banished all of dwarf-kind from the mountains, exiling them to the outer lands. The wright-priests sealed the mountain holds, entombing themselves with the ruinous power.
Many ages have passed and the descendants of those who were exiled have returned. Weary from constant battle in the lands beyond, they have made a treacherous pilgrimage to their ancestral domain, the lure of lost treasures and forbidden secrets too great to heed the warnings of their elders….
BEYOND THE COPPER DOORS is a complete 3d-print-and-play adventure module. In addition to the adventure PDF which will support rules compatible with 5E Dungeons & Dragons, OSR gaming (AD&D, OSRIC, et cetera), and PolyModular (our in-house system), this set will include 3d printable files for every location, object, NPC, and monster you need to run the game, plus a complete party of optional pre-made player character miniatures.
In the adventure, players will take the role of young dwarves (or other characters hired by a dwarf clan) reclaiming an ancient hold from which they were exiled in the distant past. The module will be designed for starting adventurers (1st to 3rd level in 5E/OSR terms), and will feature a system for randomly generating dungeons within the abandoned depths of the Hold of the Downward Sky.
The miniatures are scaled for standard scale (comparable in scale to Reaper Miniatures, CMON, modern Games Workshop models, HeroForge, et cetera), though may be re-scaled as you see fit before printing. Some of the miniatures print without support, though the non-miniature files (terrain, treasure, et cetera) is 100% support free. All miniatures are optimized for FDM or resin printing.
All backers will receive the module PDFs (in all three systems), and backers at the $25 level and higher will also receive the following 3d printable rewards:
In addition to the core rewards, we'll be adding stretch goals as we hit milestones throughout the campaign. Backers at the $30 level and higher will get all of these added to their rewards, though we may add some that will enrich the entire project (such as full illustrations for the module instead of just shots of miniatures).
Though we're also designing the module to be compatible with current (and classic) Dungeons & Dragons rules, we'll be making a version in our own system as well. PolyModular is our multi-genre rules set, and you can grab the free PDF of the fantasy rules from our website (which, fully illustrated, clocks in at a tidy 50 pages). We have others PolyModular games in the works, but this is all you need to play. If you're interested in trying something new, check it out!
Risks and challenges
Many of the assets are already produced, and we'll have a timely delivery for all 3d printable files. The time estimated for the module PDF is an estimate, and we plan on releasing by that date, but we'll keep in communication with backers if there are delays in finishing the product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
