Blasting off with a new record...
It’s time for our 4th Christian family album and it's all about grace!
Over the past 5 years and 3 albums we've gone on an investigation to uncover the 'Case of the Empty Tomb' and ’the Greatest Rescue Ever’ (Jesus really is the Hero!) and even travelled to the jungle to find ’The Topsy Turvy Kingdom’. But this time we’re blasting off to space!
On this album we're engaging children with the big biblical themes as well as individual stories. You'll discover the stories of Abraham, Joshua, David, Elijah and Hezekiah; you'll learn the books of the Bible and that they're all about Jesus; hear the wonderful news that you'll never find the end of God's love and encounter true mindfulness (the Jesus way).
We want children and their families to understand the big story of the Bible and how all the smaller stories fit together.
And it's all about grace (have I mentioned that yet??). We’re creating another rip-roaring musical adventure to help children and their families discover more about God’s Topsy Turvy Kingdom. Why does God repeatedly choose broken people to work through? Can God really keep his promises when we fail so often? Can it be true that his mercy flows on and on?
I may have already said, but 'It's all about grace'! This is in fact one of the main songs on the album and children around the UK have already been singing it. In this song we find out that our works won't do it... our money won't do it... you cannot earn God's love! The wonderful truth is that it really is all about grace - God's free gift to us in Jesus.
It's been amazing hearing children in schools that I visit instinctively come out with the answer 'it's all about grace!' because of that song.
You can check out one of my recent shows below and hear the kids singing that song!
Another song I'm particularly excited about is 'But God...' inspired by Sally Lloyd Jones' 'Thoughts to make your heart sing'. Have you noticed how many times those two words pop up in the Bible? And they're always followed by great news. A wonderful comfort in times of trouble.
'But God is my strength
But God goes ahead
But God intends it all for your good...'
As hearers of previous albums will know, we love to plumb the depths of multiple genres, and this album is no exception. Tastes of African Kwela music (think Paul Simon and Graceland); hints of old spirituals and revivalist meetings; the twang of country and bluegrass; the rocking sounds of the 00's with a nod to the Arctic Monkeys and we're even working on a disco tune! Of course Archibald the Explorer gets a 1920's jazzed up number for old times sake. There's something for everyone.
We've a fantastic team working on it, including Nick Cox (who produced 'The Greatest Rescue Ever' and 'Michael and the Topsy Turvy Kingdom') and 14x Grammy Award Winner Ron Block (Alison Krauss, O Brother Where Art Thou - he was one of the actual Soggy Bottom Boys!)
Theologian (on the faculty of Crosslands with Acts 29 and Oak Hill Theological College) and writer Tim Chester is also back on board to co-write the songs. If you've not come across his books, he's written too many to name. But do yourself a favour and go and buy one of my favourites 'You Can Change' - wonderful gospel truths put in such an accessible way. You'll get a taste of his songwriting below in the song 'Come and See'.
There's also an Audio Adventure Series??
As well as the album James Cary (BBC comedy writer with Miranda/Milton Jones/Cbeebies) is writing a 6-part audio comedy adventure. This is where the space part will really come into it's own.
Blasting off will be Michael and his usual crew of misfits including your favourites Archibald the Explorer, Dr Von Pomplenickel, Mr Grumpy and some new characters. Together they will be investigating strange goings on on the planet Zaktos. The JBI (Jerusalem Bureau of Investigations) have lost contact with the people on the planet and send their top agent, Michael, to find out what's going on. It soon turns out that the people been led away from their creator and are following a new lord.
Can Michael and the team overcome the danger and point them back to the truth? Or will the mysterious figure behind it all win the day?
A great way to get into Bible stories in a fresh and quirky way.
And a COMIC STRIP!?!
If that wasn't enough we've also enlisted the help of artist Jonny Jimison to produce a series of comic strips to go along side the audio series.
Use all the senses to go on a grand adventure!
AND A MUSIC VIDEO?!?!?!
Check out what Adam and Sarah did for the last album:
Who Am I?
I'm a UK based musician and actor; writing, recording and performing Christian music for all the family.
Using zany characters, like the slightly mad Dr Von Pomplenickel, the quintessential Englishman, Archibald the Explorer and the New York detective, Inspector Smart, coupled with a wealth of musical genres, I seek to take the family on a musical adventure to discover the wonderful grace of Jesus.
As well as recording and touring, I also go into 40+ schools every 2 months teaching about Jesus.
My passion is writing songs and shows that help children meet Jesus. Check out more on my website.
What is this crowdfunding thing?
Crowdfunding is a great way of you getting the new album before anyone else (plus other goodies like the audio series, comic strips and more) and giving us the funds to make it all.
Basically you pre-order the album (either on CD or digital) and that gives us the funds to pay people to help make this album, audio series and comic strip.
There are loads of other goodies on offer too. Just click the one you like and help us head into space!
Will you join us on the journey?
(Praise for 'The Greatest Rescue Ever')
(Praise for 'Michael and the Topsy Turvy Kingdom')
Meaningful lyrics, wonderful tunes, great production values and a large chunk of humour thrown in. Thank you Michael!

Risks and challenges
We're very experienced now in producing albums. The only danger is that we don't raise the money! If we don't meet this target we won't be able to put it on physical CD or produce a video to go with it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
