Have a question?
Suprised Sekai Project picked this game up. Upset this was announced in other places first before the kickstarter because honestly we gave alot and got nothing but nothing yet. Hopefully Sekai Project will be able to help finish the game. I did have a chance to meet with them last weekend so atleast things look less hopeless. Wonder when the game will be released though.
Seems like the news is that the game is now published by Sekai Project:
I've lost patience.
Hopefully the news is an actual release of the game.
Sorry, guys. Soon it'll be made clear what the silence has been about.
Please stop going dark. It's frustrating.
Can we get some kind of update? Haven't seen anything since May
@Kwan It's been six weeks now... getting pretty hard to defend you when you keep disappearing like this
@Wistrel Chianti the reason for silence is because nothing is getting done. The producer blew all the money developing for Ouya and prescription meds and the money is gone.
Hi Dev Team. Please see the following link. This is how you should be updating people as to progress. (not the silence you seem to be so very very fond of ; ) ) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/64161490/the-13th-doll-a-fan-game-of-the-7th-guest/posts/1920038…
@Kwan Hey man, been a month since your last update. Got anything more to show on your progress? Would be interesting to see what's been done in that time.
@Alex Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.
@Specie That's not what I was saying, you just hijacked my argument to spread more salt.
@Alex Hamerling Oh I get the point of your post totally, The reason for no updates is nothing much is getting done. It has been three years people are not going to sit around waiting forever.
Huh. I totally forgot about this game and that I was a backer.
@Specie You're completely missing the point of my post. I don't appreciate you hijacking my arguments just to spread more of your salt.
@Alex Hamerling thats if voice acting hasn't already been cut out of the game. I heard they will release voice acting later on as an update now but who really knows now.
Why does every "update" have to be a long post? Just communicate more. Show a screenshot, share what a voice actor had for lunch, just say hi, anything.
Whats the point in even having release dates if you never make them with no explanation? You said before the game would be out for sure in 2016 and we are almost halfway into 2017 with no news no nothing just silence. We want a damn answer of what the hell is going on and how much longer is this going to take?
I think people would just really like some evidence that there's work being done at all. We have to take your word for it all the time. I know you're probably scared to disappoint or of backlash, but only talking about stuff all the time doesn't satisfy our curiosity about the games state or prove anything really. Hard evidence that you're doing anything would be cool. Non-spoiler screenshot maybe? Your updates on the facebook have stopped as well which compounds the issue.
Anyway, not trying to come down on you. I can wait however long. I just think it would be healthier to show what's going on so that it doesn't create an environment where your backers try to attack/defend you with no proof.
Hope that release date isn't too far away.
I personally never read long updates since I don't care about development details much or the lives of the developers. Still, updates are important as an indication that a project is alive, a new screenshot/art and a couple lines of text are enough for me. Not having updates for months is not cool, since that makes me come and manually check comments, and I prefer to spend my time doing fun things.
Anyway, nice to know the game is not dead. =)
We feel that nothing short of a release date really means anything at this point. Even if we post new content, the question is still going to be: when is the game coming out?
So the next update will be about that (and revealing that new content of course!), when it comes. Thank you guys for sticking around, and we'll continue to push forward and hopefully bring everyone an awesome game. :)
I dont understand why the narrative now is that an update on the kickstarter has to be so substantial in order to satisfy backers, so for that reason we just wont update at all. It makes absolutely no sense. I'd be happy just seeing what the main menu and user settings options will look like. Some type of picture showing progress, is all I want.
@Nils Kirchhof you back all of two projects including this one. I am familar with the visual novel Root Double and have played that also and basically that kickstarer was for physical goods as the game itself was already translated and was going to come out anyways with or without the kickstarter. I know it is hard to develop a game on multiple platforms. I do often wonder what the whole deal with Ouya is and if they ever paid out the money owed and what the whole story is behind that is but I guess i will never know unless we are told which might be never.
I do feel betrayed I been lied to on many kickstarters and had every excuse. I even have one visual novel game I supported that actually came out be pulled off of steam for undisclosed reasons. The fact is that we were promised the game would be released in 2016 and it's looking like it won't be done even by half way into 2017 if ever. Also the fact the last game update was in 2015 is nonesense. There is no excuse for not having an update in almost a year and a half and i am tired of this nonesense about being unable to put out a worthy kickstarter update in that length of time.
Kickstarter isn't some investment or some chairty for developers. According to kickstarter we are promised said rewards that are stated but the quality of them is in question but we are still owed are rewards for the tier we backed.
I am trying to support the english visual novel industry but it just seems my efforts are wasted and developers don't care.
@Specie8470 I back the projects on kickstarter fully knowing that I might not get anything in return.
I'm studying CS at the moment so I can imagine how hard it must be to develop a game, let alone for multiple platforms.
You shouldn't feel betrayed or anything, because I don't think you were. Even if I don't know if the game will be released, I think the creator put his heart and soul into the game.
See your pledge as investment in an independent developer and to show the industry that there is an audience for this type of games.
@Nils Kirchhof I hope the game isn't dead but I have a feeling that you are correct. I just want to cry so let down been trying to support these types of games and been let down every time,
Guys, it's simple: The game is dead until proven (released) otherwise.
@Kwan I heard similar statements from other visual novel kickstarter creators what makes you any different from them? The clear fact that you havn't posted a game update since 2015 says alot. You have had release timeframes before and you havn't met them with no explanation. How many times are you going to say soon you keep saying that for the better part of a year. It really seems like you are hiding the truth from us I believe there is alot more going on that you arn't saying. I've caught creators in lies before because you seem to giving every excuse you can for delays and the lack of any updates.
I assure you there will be no disappearing. Exogenesis has been central to my life as the director for at least the past 3 years, and it has been a great endeavor for the rest of the team as well. There's no way we're putting all that to waste.
I'm sorry you feel disrespected, but lately our sentiment has been - the only possible good news is a release date. It feels like nothing we could ever say would garner any positive outcome, aside from a release date. We understand it's been a long wait for everyone, and we all just want the game to finally come out. Once we're past a certain point (soon by the looks of things), we'll be able to talk about that.
Sorry again for the wait, and we're hoping for a bit more of your patience! :)
@Alex Hamerling lol at the Specie guy. But yea I feel that they don't really care about their backers and just overall done with supporting any causes whatever even charity causes and aninal wellfare causes. It's a sad state when we don't have a game update since 2015 and it is 2017 now and still nothing. People gave them alot of money and they just show no respect to us. Most likely they will just disppear and we will never hear from them again had that happen before with me even had another Kickstarter creator lie on their resume when applying for jobs listing them doing work for their company even after they shut the company down.
Guys guys, you need to communicate with us more. It's bad enough when you guys say you have "nothing to report", but when you just keep a total radio silence, it makes things even worse. And it creates people like that Specie guy. Has your well run dry yet? What will happen when your well *does* end up running dry?
@Specie8470 It honestly seemed possible at first. We underestimated the effects the downtime we experienced last year had on everyone (e.g. one of our artists taking on extra work, slowing us down on that end), and I'm more prone to creative block than I thought. I'm very sorry you feel that way, and I wish this was a less grueling experience for all of us.
@John Sherman 100% content completion so I can move onto writing updates and spreading the word out. :)
@John Sherman I am thinking the milestone is the three year mark since the kickstarter was launched for this game. I don't know how the end of the year 2016 was even possible considering we are getting near the end of March 2017 and still no news. I put alot of money into this kickstarter and feel that every kickstarter I have supported just ends up as a waste of money. I am done supporting kickstarters and causes in general because I get no respect and the lack of any game updates for almost a year and four months just proves it. Don't give me this BS that you can't find anything worthy of a kickstarter update in that time unless you arn't doing much.
What is the milestone you're waiting for at least? A percentage of the game done?
We've learned our lesson about announcing deadlines. Once we reach a certain milestone, we'll definitely be able to talk more about things as we ramp up for release. :) For now, we're hoping for a little bit more of your patience.
You're right - dead Kickstarters should be in the open about it, but there's no way we're giving up now. :P
Do you really think it's appropriate to have a "super mega update part 1" and not providing any official update since september? This project is already significantly behind in every promised deadline including your May 27 and July 31 comments that stated there was "no turning back" and game would release this year. Why are you treating your backers like this? If anything because of project delays it should be even more important to produce substantive information on games status, but you seem to just be more evasive. If the game is dead, please say so.
Thanks for the update :) Keep working at it! I know this project means a lot to you.
That's kinda the risk with kickstarting anything. We're putting faith into a project with no real guarantee of success. I think most of us have come to terms with the fact that we're well past the original deadline. I'm just cautiously optimistic that the project seems to be moving closer to completion.
@Martin Joly the deadline stated numerous times was 2016 and that has come and went and no game updates for a year and no game. Considering they said they can't financially afford to miss the deadline and they did with no updates about the state I question what if much work is being done on the game. I question that their unablity to get an update in over a year considering the original timeline to release the game was less then that and it's been close to three years now and still no game. If they are unable to produce a "WORTHY KICKSTARTER UPDATE" in over a year then I wonder how they can possibly manage to make a game.
Dude, script rewrites are honestly not that surprising. Movie scripts constantly get rewritten right up until the end of filming, sometimes after. You always self edit when writing until you hit your deadline. In this case it's more about when that deadline actually is.
Can you answer me of why you are still doing rewrites of the script almost three years later?
Are you telling me your still working on script rewrites after almost three years of development? I would have thought that would have been completed long ago considering all the talk about finding a programmer and how the programmer is under the weather on facebook.
Well, here's a more concrete, small but real-time update. We're revising one final chapter, making sure it feels just right and not too dragging (went from over 70k words to closer to the target), then after that is a few refinements in other chapters. Got a bit more art to finalize and implement as well (including the final major puzzle), but we're almost there!
You havn't posted anything in a year about the game but you somehow manage to ramble on about your own personal life in the only update for 2016 why is that? Tell me why can't you produce a "more fun larger" update in over a year and don't give me some bullshit that you can't mange it when you ramble on about everything happens in threes about your own personal life.
Sorry guys, I guess I was wrong to assume everyone would want a larger, "more fun" update. We do it on Facebook because they're really smaller posts, they're not gonna bother your e-mail inbox, and we thought everyone could see the posts there as we have over 2000 followers which is more than the number of KS backers.
This is first i've even heard of a facebook page for updates, why do you update their and not on kickstarter?
Not everyone is on facebook. You havn't posted an update about in over a year are you not doing much work on the game?
Whoa, sorry! I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that. I really respect what you do and understand how hard it is to put together a game that is essentially a passion project. As a word of advice, I do think that a lot of backers would appreciate smaller updates in addition to the big ones. It's just a verification that the project is alive. I wish you the best of luck!
It can even be said that working on the game is what's keeping us from putting together that update, which we want to be substantial given that it will be in line with our path to release.
Let us just remind everyone that we do try to post on Facebook with snippets of the game's progress when we can. https://www.facebook.com/exogenesisgame/
You have been giving that sorry excuse for over year now are you even working on the fucking game?
