The sweet taste of chocolate often hides the bitter reality of exploited child labor. Anarchist Mott Green’s factory is different...

About this project

Deep in the rain forests of Grenada, anarchist chocolate-maker, Mott Green operates an unusual chocolate factory that turns out delicious creations unknown to a world saturated with industrially produced cocoa, much of it produced by exploited child labour. With a rich blend of ingredients missing in the large-scale production of corporate chocolate, Mott utilizes solar power, employee shareholding and small-scale antique equipment to make delicious, organic, and socially conscious chocolate. Each step in the production process, from cocoa pod to candy bar, involves ethical and sustainable methods aimed at empowering the community of farmers involved. An anarchist chocolatier, with his tiny chocolate company challenging the global model of large-scale chocolate production, and undermining the exploitation of child labour -- how could I not make a film about all of this?

Nothing like Chocolate tells the moving story of the relentless and headstrong Mott Green, founder of the Grenada Chocolate Company, as he pursues his unique vision to create the best chocolate in the world, ethically and taste-wise, from scratch. See how the world’s smallest chocolate factory, by tackling the unsustainable and exploitative practices of the Goliaths of the industry, is doing enormous things for cocoa communities, and the world’s sweet tooth.

I really want the world to know about chocolate's exploited child labour, and that it is possible to do things differently.

Please help me create the final edit so that I can spread the word!

Where does the money go to?

Every penny (less Kickstarter fees) will go directly to pay two very talented editors to create the final edit of Nothing Like Chocolate. You can see clips from the film on our Facebook page: Nothing Like Chocolate

Rewards

This project couldn’t happen without contributions from you. To show this appreciation we have lined up some great gifts that we would like to give in return.

What happens if the money is not raised in time?

In that case, no money will change hands and the final edit for the film won’t happen. Please help avoid this happening! We have 33 days, from 9th March, to raise the $10,000.

Can we exceed the goal?

YES! That would be fantastic! Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. If that happens, the score composition, final color correction and sound sweetening will happen sooner rather than later. This scenario is an excellent one!

Where can I learn more about the project?

Please visit the official website, http://www.nothinglikechocolate.com There you will find more information.

Is my pledge amount publicly displayed?

No. Only you and the project creator will be able to see your pledge amount.

If I donate, when can I redeem the incentive?

All incentives, big and small, will only happen if our goal is met. If we do meet our goal, immediately after our deadline we will start to manufacture and ship all physical merchandise directly to you. The screenings, parties and dvds etc. can only happen after the film is completed so this will take a bit of time. Bear with us!

What if I don’t want the incentive, I just want to support?

No problem, there is a button that you can select if you don’t want the reward.

Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made?

YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.

Can I Gift An Incentive?

YES! What a lovely thought. If you would like to donate to the film but give the reward to someone as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name. For billing purposes, this action must be in your name. After our deadline, we will send a message to you on Kickstarter. (It will be forwarded to the email address you provided) We will request your address from you at that time. Please reply with all the person’s information that is to receive the reward. We will make sure they are the person who receives the reward.

I am not in the US. Can I still pledge to this project?

Yes, you can pledge to the project from anywhere in the world.

How do I make a tax-deductible contribution?

Please contact me (kumkum@nothinglikechocolate.com) and I will explain a very simple way to do that.
