Inequality-opoly is a custom property trading game that demonstrates how structural racism and sexism in America serve as impediments to accumulating wealth. In this game like in the real world, certain players based on their perceived identity enjoy privileges while others face obstacles to building wealth.
I am raising funds to manufacture and distribute 250 games throughout the country to accomplish two goals: (1) to spread awareness and advance discourse about the effects of structural racism and sexism in America and (2) to facilitate and empower the players to advocate for policy that supports and empowers women and people of color.
The game is based on national data and studies of how structural racism and sexism still affect our day to day lives (all sources can be found at www.inequalityopoly.com). Players will be able to reference the site to get information on parts of the game. This game is not only an educational tool but also an action tool. After playing the game and learning about the effects of racism and sexism, we will ask you to fill out a google form that will become a letter that you can send to your local, state, or federal politician advocating for policies that support women, people of color, and other marginalized groups.
Please find the game components below.
Write in the comments what kinds of things you expect to be in the game. Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
Risk 1: This game has gone through many iterations is still being playtested and perfected. We know with feedback from the Kickstarter community and from playtesters, we will fully align the game with its mission.
Risk 2: There is minimal risk in the actual production of the game because is just a modification on a custom property trading game. If the campaign is successful, there are many companies that I can use to manufacture the game, who are used to working with Kickstarter campaigns.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
