About this project
Hello KickStarter Community. We are producing a documentary about a true American, an unsung Hero, an Artist, a Master Craftsman, a Stained Glass Lamp Artist that has worked in humble obscurity for over 40 years.
His name is Jim Forsell and he has had a single purpose in his life and that purpose is to make Stained Glass Lamps. He has followed that passion over his life time and he has built over 1,000 Tiffany Style Stained Glass Lamps. This is an amazing feat and one that is probably not rivaled by any other stained glass lamp artist in the world today.
Stained Glass Lampshades are a pure American Art form invented in the late 19th century and flourished throughout the Arts and Crafts movement. Jim has lived and worked atop a mountain overlooking Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Peninsula, busy respectfully mastering his craft as the ultra modern technology driven Silicon Valley just below him was busy changing the way we live and communicate, globally.
Jim has worked and lived on the old Joan Baez commune since the 1960's, honing his craft and creating some of the most beautiful and intricate stained glass lamps you will ever see. No one knows his name, no one knows who he is, yet he has worked steadfast, dedicated to his craft with a laser like focus on creating, designing and building some of the most beautiful works of art ever seen.
And while he might not be a Van Gogh or Monet, his dedication to the craft is just as extreme.
We would like to honor Jim with this documentary for his craftsmanship, his dedication and his devotion to this American Art Form. Help us help him get the recognition he deserves.
We want to honor him for his years of service and for providing us with his bursts of brilliance that inspire us, lift us and make us recognize that there are some things that are just gifts to us all. Jim is a gift, his work is a gift, let us honor that gift.
The money we raise from the KickStarter Community will be used for the equipment, crew and other production costs necessary to produce and edit this documentary.
We have a five minute Trailer called "Satori, The Jim Forsell Story" that you can view at https://vimeo.com/35997306. This video just begins to scratch the surface of the story behind Jim and his work. It will also give you a general sense of who he is and our production capabilities.
Thank you for your support.
