Have you ever missed a connection at a festival or event?
After attending countless festivals and shows and making tons of friends and kandi trades along the way, I wanted to build a better way to connect with others using kandi.
One of my favorite missed connections led me to the idea of creating Kandi Family. I met a couple during a music festival last year. They were dancing in front of me and my friends during one of my favorite sets and they started dancing with all of us and we all started talking. They were so nice and had the best vibes. They asked if I wanted to trade kandi with them and I said yes. I traded a couple of special kandi bracelets that I had made and in return, they gave me a lovely, intricate kandi cuff piece. It was so well-put together and must have taken a long time to make. We hung out for a little longer but then had to leave to make it to another set that was happening soon after. I got their names but never got around to getting their numbers.
That event lead me to the idea of connecting through Kandi. So I started building a site to be able to connect through a Kandi code. It's a six bead combo that you register and connect with others. This code is your secret passcode to allow people to find you later. Just make your kandi bracelet with a start bead so people can find you later in the network!
Kandi Family allows you to connect with someone you've traded kandi with by looking up their code. This can come in handy if you don't have your cellphone on you to get their contact info, so you can look them up later on the network.
What is Kandi?
“Kandi” generally comes in the form of bracelets made of multicolor plastic pony beads, often with words and phrases strung into the bracelet’s pattern. These are made as a friendly gesture to give out to others. When you trade kandi you use the process of PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect). It’s a handshake that signifies acceptance.
1. Two people make peace signs (Peace)
2. They form their hands into hearts (Love)
3. They join their hearts (Unity)
4. They slide their bracelets from hand to hand (Respect)
Why don't we sell Kandi Bracelets?
The tradition of Kandi is to make each bracelet with love. If we took that away, it would defeat the true meaning of sharing something you poured your heart into. That being said, we do plan on selling beads and of course our Kandi start beads so you can start making you're own kandi with your unique combo. Kandi Family start beads tell others where your code begins.
What features will the Kandi Family network have?
Currently, we have the registration finished. You can register on Kandifamily.com right now! We are working on end to end encrypted chat and profiles. We hope to have those finished soon.
Features we are working on are:
- End to end Encrypted Chat
- Personal Profiles
- Kandi Supplies
- Kandi Pins
- Mobile Apps for Apple and Android
Why a private network?
We wanted to be different and make it so only people with your special Kandi Code can add you. No more stalkers, strangers, and co-workers looking you up online. We also think the security of your personal data is important.
Below are some designs we have of what we plan on building. (Note: these are just mockups and are subject to change.)
What do you get for helping?
No matter what level you back you will receive code starter beads, drawstring backpack, and the OG Pin for your profile!
If you back the OG Raver Package we have limited edition backpack plus lots of beads for you!
Can you help?
Kickstarter is a way for new startup businesses like us to raise money to fund a new idea to bring to life. Instead of relying on corporate investors, our startup is depending on people like you. Help us stay PLUR and spread love and new connections for festivals and shows to come. Consider donating and we will send you a some beads to start connecting!
Risks and challenges
Like any online business, we risk the lack of adoption of people using the site. Without your help or interest, we will be forced to close our doors down the line. Managing a site that has this many features is no easy task and it's expensive. It will be some time before we can be profitable meaning we pay to keep the lights on until that day.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
