"The Only Son of One" will be my first recording of all original music and is inspired by my childhood in London, England.
Hi everyone, Thanks so much for checking me out on kickstarter! I'm very excited to tell you about my new recording project, "The Only Son of One"!
This past March I brought my new quintet into the studio and recorded about half of what is to become my very first recording of all original music. I'm proud of the music and thrilled with my new band, but let me tell you a little about how this project all began. Ever since my father passed away when I was in college, I knew that I would some day tell the story of the emotional journey that my mother and I shared while healing from some difficult times in England before moving to the US. I have been equally compelled to honor my mother's perseverance and success as a single parent in her teens and early twenties. Since moving into my thirties, I have felt a growing urgency to express the emotions associated with this time, and music is the best tool I have in which to do so.
Thanks to my twelve years on the NYC jazz scene and the opportunity to work in some of the most creative musical ensembles in jazz (particularly The Mingus Band and The Tom Harrell Quintet), I have been overwhelmed with musical ideas that have further fueled the compositions of my new project "The Only Son of One". The music is steeped in the history and tradition of Jazz but with a creative and exploratory edge, drawing inspiration from the aforementioned groups as well as everyone from Ravel to John Coltrane and more. My new quintet featuring Orrin Evans, Adam Holzman, Hans Glawischnig and Jason Brown has brought these original compositions to life in the studio and in recent performances. This ensemble has far surpassed my expectations as to the possibilities of emotional exploration through music. I am very pleased to say the least, and I can't wait to have this music documented and share it with all of you.
I am happy to have found Kickstarter as a tool to raise the money I need for the production costs of this self-produced project. Your contributions to this project will go towards: 2 days of studio recording, 2 days of studio mixing, 1 day of studio mastering, and musicians' fees. Once completed, I hope to license the finished product to an indie record label for worldwide release. Such said label will then likely cover the graphic design, manufacturing and publishing costs of the final product. As you can see there are many costs in making a CD, so your contributions are much needed and appreciated, no matter how large or small. You will only be charged if my goal of $10,000 is met and the project is fully funded. So I hope each and every one of you will make a contribution, as this cannot happen without your kind support. Over the years I have been humbled and honored by the amount of support for my music that I have received from family and friends, other musicians and fans. I cannot express how grateful I would be if you were to become a backer of this project. Each recording a musician makes is an eternal documentation of his or her artistic vision and musical development at that time, as well as a window into their soul. I hope you'll be a part of this, my latest musical testimony. Please feel free to contact me for any reason via my website www.escofferymusic.com
THANK YOU in advance for your support!
