Why Trifecta?

Each poem stands on its own merit and is supported by the context of the others: 3 books

Each poem is meant to be savored and meant to be shared: a postcard to accompany each book

Each poem is an invitation for connection: a love letter yearning & offering a sense of place, agency, and healing

Who is the Artist?

My name is 杰意. You may call me Jiéyì or Jay. I was born on Lunar New Year in the Year of the Sheep in Nagoya, Japan to a Chinese mother and an American father. I am a queer & trans artist, educator, and activist. Trifecta is my story: a story that bridges 3 cultures. It is also an invitation to be our story: a story for inspiration, connection, and community.

Goals & Stretch Goals

Initial Goal: $2000

Print 100 saddle stitch with square back 5.5x8.5 books of each poem and an accompanying postcard for each book. Each page is illustrated with beautiful black & white ink drawings.

Stretch Goal: $3000

I would love to also print a larger version of Trifecta as an all-in-1 coloring book with intro & context for each poem. This option will be available as a reward after we complete our initial goal. We can also do a larger print run at this time.

Risks and challenges

As of launching this project, poems are written and I have illustrated drafts of each poem. Since starting the project, I've designed each of the postcards. The next step is working on page layouts and editing images. The biggest risks & challenges may be a delay in shipping if the process takes longer than I anticipate. I'll keep y'all in the loop. (-:

1:1 Studio session with the artist

Come visit me in my home studio. I will prepare a simple lunch and we can look at original artwork for the making of Trifecta. Then, we can sit down and brainstorm the words and images that stand out in your own personal story. I will reflect on our time together and create an original work of art for you.
