STEAMTeam 5: Mystery at Makerspace is book #2 in a series. The first book, STEAMTeam 5: The Beginning, was published in December of 2017 after successfully raising $30,000 in a previous Kickstarter campaign.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $9600 to print our second book, STEAMTeam 5: Mystery at Makerspace.

We believe that if young children (both boys and girls) are exposed to strong, happy, curious female characters who use STEAM skills to solve problems, many more young women will see the pursuit of STEAM education to be normal and exciting, ultimately leading to more women pursuing careers in these important fields. We feel strongly that we shouldn't require a young girl to be exceptional in order to succeed in STEAM.
We were honored to be invited by HRH Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite to speak at the United Nations International Day of Women & Girls in Science forum in New York on this subject.

We are passionate about getting young children excited about STEM/STEAM—not only to make them more employable later, but because forming and testing hypotheses, problem-solving, and overcoming obstacles are important skills for everyone to have.
Like many of you, we're parents of young children and we've become painfully aware of the shortage of STEM/STEAM role models and stories, particularly those aimed at young girls.
Greg created the STEAMTeam 5 characters while building a dollhouse with his young daughter, as a way to infuse STEM concepts into her playtime. This evolved into creating adventure stories, which she loved.
Pam, a woman in a STEM field and the mother of a young son, is passionate about exposing both young girls and boys to more female role models.
So, together, we wrote our first children's adventure book, STEAMTeam 5: The Beginning, based on these characters so that parents everywhere can inspire their children with great female role models who use STEAM in fun and exciting ways.
People love our first book, and now we're launching this Kickstarter to fund the printing of STEAMTeam 5: Mystery at Makerspace, the second book in the STEAMTeam 5 adventure book series.
STEAMTeam 5: Mystery at Makerspace is the second book in a children's adventure book series about five amazing girls who use science, technology, engineering, art, and math to do amazing things.
This book is already written and is almost done being illustrated. Here are a few samples:
Designed for children aged 7-13, this 8"x10" hardcover book will have over 130 pages and include over 40 full-color illustrations. It will also feature a glossary of STEM/STEAM terms used in the book and questions for discussion.

We launched a successful Kickstarter last June to raise funds to finish illustrations and publish our first book, STEAMTeam 5: The Beginning. We reached our goal in July and finished the illustrations, printed books, and shipped our books to backers 4 months later.
Our first book in this series received great reviews and inspired parents to share some amazing photos with us. Here are a handful.
We will ship all books from our office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
United States (free shipping): We will offer free shipping to backers within the U.S.
Canada (US$5 shipping): We will offer US$5 shipping to backers within Canada.
European Union (US$5 shipping): The total shipping and customs cost per unit is about $12, which we're subsidizing and only adding $5 to the the price of the book on Kickstarter.
It can be more expensive and take longer to ship individual packages to South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and non-EU Eastern Europe. So, we will be using Send From China to ship books airmail from our printer directly to backers in these countries. The shipping cost is $5 per book.
Risks and challenges
We've removed as many risks/challenges as possible by finishing writing the book and completing the illustrations. Our only risk involves working with a new printing company.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
