About this project

The Orion Files is a set of videos that help young children with autism learn how to develop certain skills.  Video modeling has proven to be an effective tool to teach skills for children with autism spectrum disorders.  The research also shows that some of the most effective videos are when the subjects are of similar age.  That's where Orion comes in . . . who better than a four year old to teach other preschoolers?

The funds will be used to develop a series of videos for parents and teachers supporting children with autism and other special needs.  The topics will range from going to the doctor to shopping at the grocery store to cleaning up and going to bed.  The series will consist of 12 different video clips to help teach children how to develop these skills and interact in different situations.

Think of all the YouTube videos that show how to plant a garden, make a cake or build a shed.  We all learn by seeing others in action.  So let's help our little ones out with some great videos to teach important skills in a positive, fun and friendly way.

Cast & Crew:  Orion is the star with his family surrounding him behind the scenes.  Derek, Angie, Jordan, Christian, Joey and Lisa will write, direct and shoot The Orion Files.  Thank you in advance for any support you might be able to offer.

"Two new studies at Indiana University demonstrate that videos depicting exemplary behaviors can be effective in helping children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders develop social skills and daily living skills . . . Improvements were most evident in the area of functional skills, followed by social-communication skills and behavioral functioning." - Bellini, S. & Akullian, J. (2007)

Risks and challenges

With this type of project, the only challenge is to direct a four year old to perform certain tasks. This challenge will be addressed in a variety of ways. First of all, there will be multiple opportunities to get the "right take". Secondly, the careful use of photos, editing and voice over can accomplish the same outcome. Orion is ready for the challenge!
