- Manifest: A document listing a ship's contents, cargo, passengers, and crew.
It's the roaring '20s and fortunes can be made steaming across the wild oceans. You have ships full of passengers and precious cargo, but can you outrun pirate robbers, terrifying storms, and a stock market crash that might devalue your goods?
To succeed, you’ll need a captain’s steady nerve and the help of Lady Luck to land your cargo where it’s needed.
- 2 - 5 Players
- Age 13+
- 20 minutes per player
Win points for your shipping company by completing Contracts. Pick up the required goods or passengers at their source, then navigate the high seas to deliver them to a port where they are wanted. Be sure to load more cargo than you need to deliver, as there are many hazards along the way, and pirate thieves hiding among the waves.
With a choice of Private or Public Contracts, two ships in your charge, and multipurpose Action cards, there are hard choices and many paths to victory, as well as some ‘take that’ options to thwart your opponents.
“The game is easy to learn in ten minutes, yet levels of strategy unfold as you become familiar with the cards, how their powers interact, and as you become confident in planning your global logistics.”
The How to Play video shows simplified turns with ideal Action cards. In normal play it is not so easy to complete the Contracts as you will have less than perfectly matched Action cards and other players may well try to slow you down, or steal your cargo. EXPERT DECK BUILDING Manifest can be played in two ways: Standard and Expert. The Standard game is the introductory and family game. The Expert game builds on this, with a deck-buying and building mechanic replacing the blind Action card draw, thus adding another level of strategy that confident players may prefer.
How to Play the Expert game - video
"Manifest is a solid, smart euro game – light enough for family fun, interesting enough for more demanding gamers. The mechanics feel familiar, but combine into an elegant game with distinct charm. I, for one, would rather play Manifest than Ticket to Ride, for instance, and I can see people having a lot of fun with this one." (Full review on BGG by Zirk van den Berg)
"...the special abilities ... is where Manifest rises above standard pick-up and deliver titles, revealing its true nature as a highly interactive “take-that” game of mayhem." (Full review by Jason Meyers on ISlayTheDragon)
"Manifest is one of those games that could be played on the same game night as Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride with a group of gateway gamers. It is simple to learn and play, but has a good amount of planning and strategy - as well as a couple laugh out loud moments each game." (Preview by James Flemming, boardgamereviewsbyjosh)
"I like the conundrum factor of the Action Cards. Easy to pick up, fun 'take that' factor." ~ David Taylor (Coordinator, Board Games by the Bay / Seriously Board Store Owner)
“The delivery model gives it an extra dimension to Ticket to Ride. I love the balance between attack / defend and fulfilling the contracts. Great fun. A game that I know I will enjoy playing for years to come.” ~ Jo Toon (Gamer at Wellycon 2013)
“The game is filled with strategy, clever action cards and variety. I like that you incorporate concepts of multiple games and still make it feel unique.” ~ Rudi de Bruyn (FLGS owner, Auckland)
"Great Fun! Would love to have this on holiday with my teenagers." ~ Graham (Auckland)

Goals reached will enhance all copies of the game whether delivered as Kickstarter rewards or made available later through retail channels.
- 1 - PIRATE SHIP - At $28,000 we will add an extra meeple that comes with special Pirate powers. We canvassed backers as to whether this should be a Black pirate ship meeple or a Pirate character meeple and the ship was preferred.
- 2 - COMPANY ADVANTAGE - At $28,500 we will add a 'Company Advantage' variant. Each player gets a card that conveys a unique ongoing benefit i.e. Free-Loader, Attacker, Defender, Double-Stacker, Four-Hander. It also comes with 4 new Action Cards that help you swing the best Advantage your way.
- 3 - PIMPED BOX - ... a moulded plastic tray to keep all the bits tidy instead of the simple cardboard insert - if we reach $29,000
- 4 - TWO SIDED MAP BOARD - if we reach $30,000 we will make the game board double-sided. Instead of a blank rear, the back side will feature an Antipodean-centric map, with New Zealand and Australia slap in the middle. Here is a mock up of what it will look like ... those interchanges in the middle of the Pacific will need tidying up a bit but you get the idea.
- 5 - CUSTOM DICE - if we reach $31,000 we will make special dice with symbols instead of the 5 & 6 for those non-cargo hold attacks.
We are New Zealand-based game designers and publishers – and game fanatics: Julia Schiller and Amanda Milne. We founded SchilMil Games in 2011.
Manifest is our own design and has been under development for two years. We’ve previously published four games that you can check out on our website. These are on sale throughout NZ and Australia.
We like Euro games, and we find the most fun comes when there is player interaction. A little dice-enabled piracy ensures this!
Check the reward levels on the right for one that suits you. We anticipate the RRP (MSRP) will be $70 NZD.
All postage to NZ backers is included in the rewards. International backers please see the chart below. We will bulk ship to the USA and the UK and pay any duty on import, so if you are in the EU you won't have to worry about tax.
The NZ Dollar is a little like the down-to-earth Kiwi bird - it floats at lower levels than other currencies:
Please ensure that you add the shipping amount and then pledge the NZ$ total based on your reward level and country. NZ$ Totals are shown in the blue column.
Each of our existing games has its own website with videos and reviews. They are linked to our company website.
We published the first three SchilMil games using our own resources. Most recently we ran a successful campaign to fund the printing of Granny Wars using PledgeMe, an NZ crowd-funding platform.
Manifest is our most ambitious project to date. We have already paid for and received all the artwork, created for us by the renowned game artist Franz Vohwinkel. Franz has done an amazing job; play-testers are loving the game; so now we seek to raise the funds for manufacture.
With your help we can spread the word and get those pirate dice rolling around the world!
Risks and challenges
One of the reward levels requires our backers to supply us with their photo in a timely fashion. We are allowing one month to collect these photos and incorporate them into the card designs. We are confident that this will not delay the planned time-frame for manufacture as all the other artwork is completed and we will be doing this final stage ourselves (for which we have the Photoshop skills).
Other challenges may arise from the proofs, printing and the shipping to us from the factory. We’re using a manufacturer and shippers that we have used before without any problems, but issues still may come up. We’ve built-in some lag to cover any potential delays, but it’s still possible that the shipping (to you) date will be pushed back a little. We will do everything we can to prevent that and will communicate with you transparently if any delays do occur. As a safety measure, Amanda will be making a stopover in Shanghai during the proofing stage.
We have decided to bulk ship games to fulfilment centres in the UK and the USA to avoid backers paying import taxes and to minimise postage costs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
