Hello, and welcome to Metropolis: the Oratorio, the Fundraiser! Hello, my name is James Bohn. I am a composer living on the southcoast of Massachusetts. I have received a partial commission from Rhode Island College to compose a large piece for choir. I say it is a partial commission, as the money they are offering is a little less than half of what I would normally require for such a large scale work.
My plan is to take the 1927 silent movie classic, Metropolis, edit it down to forty minutes, and write an oratorio that will be performed simultaneously with the edited film. I will also be separating the film into eight reels or movements.
One additional side project will be taking the music I’ve written for the oratorio, and using it to create a synthesized soundtrack for the full two-hour film.
The funding that has been already provided by Rhode Island College is sufficient to cover the first three reels of the project. I am seeking funding for the fourth reel, and if this fundraiser is successful, I may seek funding for successive reels of the project.
In a good week I can write five minutes of music, the approximate length of each reel of the project. The money I am hoping to raise covers my operating expenses for the week.
You can give at any number of levels, from $1 up to $1000. The more you give, the more gifts you will receive for your generosity. All donors will be acknowledged in the a program insert at the premiere and on the DVD of the oratorio performance.
Thank you for your time, and thanks for giving!
