Words of Oz is a poetry game made by our studio Ozma Games. We created this game because we believe lots of people long to make beautiful things, and to share this experience with friends and family. To explore and communicate emotions are important to us. Poetry is a wonderful way to do this, but you don't have to be an experienced poet to love playing with words. Play is a great way to free your creativity from self-criticism. If you can't find the right words to express yourself, Words of Oz makes it really easy. It's a social game and after each game session you get a beautiful, funny or unexpected poem to share!

Right now we have an online beta version of the game. Hundreds of people have already played it and given us great feedback. (We would love to get more from you!!) Now we are impatient to implement all the changes and additional features we need to make based on this feedback. Here are some of the new things we're planning for:

- Sharing functions for Twitter and Pinterest
- Friends invite function
- Chat function
- General design improvements
This is our first goal, to really make the game work the way we want it. If the campaign turns out even more successful, our second goal is to make an app version of the game for iOS.
First goal: 14 000 $ = Now we go and add some more awesomeness to the game!
Second goal: 45 000 $ = Celebration!!! Now we dance and make the iOS version!

How does the game work exactly?
Ok, so the idea behind Words of Oz is to boost people’s creativity by making it really easy to create poetry together. How do we do this? The game provides you with words to make phrases (20 words exactly). And by placing a phrase on the game board you will score points in the game. Words that fulfil any of the bonus criteria or which are related to the images shown on the game board, will give extra points if placed correctly. The creative challenge is to come up with phrases that both score well and that sounds nice. The game is turn-based so you make one phrase, your opponent makes the next and so on. When the game is over you can choose the phrases you liked from the session and order them into a poem. Voila!
Who are Ozma Games?
Bobbi and I started the company already in 2006. Over the years we have made board games, location-based games, games for change, and participated in several research projects. Exploring playfulness and using game mechanics in unexpected ways has always been our thing. Our motto is: "Everyone has the right to play!" and we like to believe that play can be a magical thing and in exploring it we will learn a lot about ourselves and what it's all about being a human being.

(Fun fact 2: Poetry is about expressing emotions, and the whole process of selecting the words and images for the game that would get the players into the right mood for making poems, was probably the most interesting part of making the game!)
Risks and challenges
How to prepare for the unexpected I think is an interesting question. Things rarely go the way you expected them to. That is one thing you absolutely learn after working almost a decade with games. That said you also learn how to cope with it.
We originally designed the game for tablets and we are determined to finish the app version for iOS and Android. We work hard right now to secure the funding (without selling our souls!).
