Desert Mojito is a humorous fiction, which brings into light the new meanings that love, seduction, romance, religion, and tradition take on as the “mysterious” East clashes with the Middle East’s “Wild West” desert city, Dubai.
The narrator, Maya Bibnaz Rostampisheh-Williams, who was born in Oshkosh Wisconsin but raised in Tehran, is a playful, quirky urbanite in her late thirties who is a kind of Iranian cultural ambassador among her odd group of international friends. Through their adventures in Dubai, a place where modernity collides at top speed with pillars of tradition, they take us on a journey of challenges as they encounter the dualities of this unique city’s cultural ying and yang.
Dubai’s mixed-up cocktail of mercenaries masquerading as businessmen, Muslims claiming to be Zoroastrians, married men posing as bachelors, single couples acting married, and gay couples playing straight all come together to make a lip-smacking Desert Mojito.
What makes me a Desert Mojito expert
In my travels I’ve found that many of us are interested in learning more about what goes on in other people’s minds in different cultures across the world--things we could not learn from watching a two-minute biased news clip on our national television channels. Time and again I found myself sharing my stories to put into a more realistic framework the underlying values of cultures and places familiar to me. And this novel is inspired by these stories, locations, and characters.
My goal when writing Desert Mojito
My main goal when writing Desert Mojito was to entertain while informing the reader. To take the reader on a fun journey inside the heart of the Middle East and to address the confusing, unwritten cultural rules and nuances.
Desert Mojito is the first of hopefully a series of my novels to follow in which stories of cultural exchanges will bring a smile and a better understanding of our differences. Stories to help us realize that we can be different, and still respect each other and get along.
Here is how you can help support my project
The novel is finished and ready to be published. This is what your pledges will fund:
1. Amazon and Kickstarter take their share of 8-10 percent of funds raised.
2. The remainder of your pledges will help fund getting the book together and published and promoted: the editing, the cover design, the book layout design, print and e-book development, interactive web creation, media kit, net advertisement and promotion, and shipment.
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing
We have 30 days to raise $11,000. Your account will be charged at the end of the campaign period only if the sum of pledges reach this goal. If we don’t raise the total amount by the end of the 30 days, your account will not be charged and the project will not get anything.
On the right side of the page you’ll see different rewards for backing this project, including signed copies of the book, acknowledgements in both print and e-book versions, Desert Mojito kits that include Mojito Zippo flasks, Desert Vapur foldable bottles, Desert Mojito coasters, and your name appearing in this and future novels.
There is no limit to the pledges. If the sum of the pledges exceeds our goal, all proceeds with be invested back into this novel and the next.
