Fantasy Flight Games to Co-Publish Siege of the Citadel!

Posted by Cabinet & Modiphius (Creator)

Hi everyone the massive news is finally out, Fantasy Flight Games are going to co-publish Siege of the Citadel with us (Modiphius & Cabinet Entertainment). To celebrate we're giving all Doomtrooper Pledges and Dark Legion Pledges a bonus of a Bloodberet version of McBride!

Read the full press release below but what this means is solid support in to retail to ensure the base game gets everywhere, FFG's awesome product support, localisations in to other languages and much more. The retail edition will of course come sometime AFTER Kickstarter backers get their copies.

We do not yet know which localised editions they will do and much of this will be worked out after the Kickstarter is completed. Fantasy Flight Games are sending out this press release to all their contacts right now and posting it on their website so we expect to reach hundreds of thousands of new potential backers who will want to get in on the amazing deal which is now worth $369! and includes 100 miniatures! Check the graphic for a reminder below!

Today Modiphius Entertainment, publisher of the Achtung! Cthulhu, Mutant Chronicles, Conan, Infinity, and John Carter of Mars roleplaying games, and Cabinet Entertainment (Conan the Barbarian, Kull of Atlantis, Solomon Kane, Mutant Chronicles, Mutant: Year Zero, Kult) announced a new partnership with Fantasy Flight Games for the global publishing, retail distribution, localization, and translation of the Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel miniatures board game.

In a joint statement issued by Fredrik Malmberg, president and CEO of Cabinet Entertainment and Chris Birch, publishing director of Modiphius Entertainment, “FFG’s global reach is unsurpassed in the hobby game industry and their expertise allows us the opportunity to focus on the game’s design and development. We’re thrilled to be working with them to bring Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel to friendly local game shops everywhere.”

Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel has currently raised more than $280,000 in a highly successful Kickstarter campaign with more than 2200 backers and three days to go. The retail version of Siege of the Citadel will be released worldwide after the delivery of the Kickstarter rewards, which are due to be shipped Q4 2017.

Siege of the Citadel, originally designed by Richard Borg and published by Target Games and Pressman Toys in the 1990s, was one of the first games of its kind to offer character development and the unique rotating Dark Legion player, among other groundbreaking ideas. Conceived by Sweden’s gaming powerhouse Target Games, Siege of the Citadel was advertised on television in the US and hundreds of gamers still own much loved copies across the world. This new edition reboots the classic game with balanced and updated rules, 40 new sculpted minis, new double-sided tiles, new creatures, and an A-List design team of Richard Borg, Eric M. Lang and Kevin Wilson.

On one hand, this sounds like good news. Tying into the distribution network of a compang like FFG/Asmodee will get the game to a wider audience.

However, I hope decisions regarding the game's production quality stays resident with Cabinet and Modiphius. FFG miniatures do not always solicit praise for high quality. It seems a little odd that this was announced only at the eve of the kickstarter, I have been wrestling with maintaining my pledge; in my mind this has a significant effect on the endeavor. Fingers crossed.

@Black Death Miniatures - There will most likely be a Heidelberger Spieleverlag release of SotC, yes. If you are lucky, it will be at the same time the english version retails.

Could one imagine, that FFG had some Warhammer 40K games down the Pipeline, they want a good IP for? Que Mutant Chronicles.

Translations will be part of later retail releases and not part of the kickstarter. Modiphius retains full control of the design process - but we benefit from the FFG design team's input who are huge Siege of the Citadel fans too!

HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This explains SO. MUCH. That said, happy news for the game line, I'd say, given the sheer weight of FFG/Asmodée...

@John - The announcement just says they're co-publishing, so they shouldn't have much influence on how the game plays or looks (beyond physical quality, anyway).

On the one hand: yay blood berets McBride!!!!
On the other hand: yay partnerships!
On the gripping hand: I wasn't a fan of their version of this franchise, and slightly worried they'll taint it by using the wrong dice again, or something.

    16. Joaquin

      That's HUGE NEWS!!! Congrats!

Hopefully this leads to a lasting partnership. I'd like to see a proper represntation of the Mutant Chronicles brand fill the space at FFG that Warhammer left open.
