We're part of a global cult phenomenon. Let's have some FUN with it!
Twelve years ago, a group of struggling actors (us!) accepted roles a film called The Room. We knew it wouldn’t win any awards. But we had no idea that it would eventually be known as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies,” or that it would become a cult hit (and a complete joke). But when the world is laughing at you, what do you do?
You laugh right along with them. Otherwise, you find yourself crying into your wine late at night. And nobody wants that.
That’s why we’re now coming to YOU, the fans: we want you to have the rest of the story. But to tell it, we need your help!
We want to make a fun new short film called, “The Room Actors: Where Are They Now? A Mockumentary.” This film takes a tongue-in-cheek, satirical look at how The Room actors' lives have changed since appearing in best worst movie ever made. It will be funny and silly and chock full of jokes only YOU as die-hard Roomies will get. (But it will also includes lots of laughs for those of you who have never seen The Room.)
And it’s up to YOU to decide how big you want this project to be! If we hit our MINIMUM GOAL, we’ll produce a SHORT FILM. If we raise enough ($35k), we’ll turn it into a spin-off WEB SERIES that follows the actors from The Room navigating Hollywood in the decade after appearing in a cinematic train wreck.
This project is all about you, our fans. We wanna give you want YOU want. YOU decide WHAT we do, and HOW MUCH we do! If you help fund us, we’ll do it!
Above all: YOU, the fans, are why we decided to launch this project. We, the Room actors, absolutely LOVE the fans. (But not in a creepy, illegal way. Just like good friends, who laugh at us all the time.)
I’ve been to numerous Room screenings in Los Angeles, and I’ve never met a funnier, wittier, more intellectual group of film fanatics. From SPOOOOONS to the football gags to the way you’ve made “oh hai” an inside joke for the ages, Room fans are awesome. We want to do something with you to celebrate that!
With this project, we want to give you something original and new that we can laugh at, make fun of, share, and enjoy. This film features The Room actors poking fun at themselves and our shared part in cult movie history.
People often ask us whether we make money off our participation in “The Room.” And the answer is NO. (I mean, it’s yes, but not like you’re thinking. We each made a few hundred dollars shooting The Room back in 2002 and that was it. We’ve spent it. It’s gone.)
Unlike big name Hollywood actors, we are basically regular Joes and Josephinas. We don’t have a reserve of cash set aside for making films and we don't have easy access to financiers with gobs of money! (If you do, please let us know, though -- we LOVE having Executive Producers!)
The goal we set for this project is the minimum we need to do to make something: a short film. We spent every dollar we had shooting and editing the Kickstarter video and getting our campaign ready to launch. So we need every dime we raise here and more to make SOMETHING GREAT.
In short, we can't do it without your backing. We’re pretty much begging. That’s OK. After being in The Room, it’s not like we have a ton of pride.
Awww, we love you for that! Thanks so much for being a part of our Roomie family, because we can’t make this project a reality without your help. But we want to make sure it’s good for you too, so we’ve got a lot of fun rewards planned out. Take a look at what YOU can get out of this!
Our campaign has ended, but many of these rewards are still available, click on the "PLEDGE NOW" icon at the top of the page to claim some of these rewards.
We have SLASHED PRICES! Scroll down to see PRICE REDUCTIONS.
Remember - rewards like the dinner with Room cast, set visits, premiere and after party, etc. include tickets for you and a date so TWO people get to enjoy them.
We love meeting and hanging out with Roomies! We hope YOU do too! Take a look at our cast interaction rewards with REDUCED PRICES.
If you want to play a BIG ROLE in getting our film made and made right, these are the rewards for you! Visit the set, give us advice, play a PART in our film! Note our REDUCED PRICES!
*PLEASE NOTE: The script, poster, DVD, and all other rewards will be for our short film "The Room Actors: Where Are They Now? A Mockumentary" not for The Room movie by Tommy Wiseau.
The goal we set is the absolute bare bones minimum amount we need to make this film a reality! More money means higher production values, more locations, a dedicated sound technician, a set designer and a professional post-production crew for sound mixing and color correction. More money means a better final product for you to enjoy!
And if we make enough ($35k), we'll expand the project into a WEB SERIES! YOU decide what we do based on your backing!
If we reach our base goal and you want to see us expand our project, please spread the word about our campaign to new backers!
Hold on. Who the hell are we? In short, we are the actors in The Room, the best worst movie ever made. I played “Michelle,” the best friend of the main character. Juliette Danielle (Lisa), Philip Haldiman (Denny), Carolyn Minnot (Claudette), Dan Janjigian (Chris-R), Kyle Vogt (Peter) and and I are on board for this project. Breaking news! As of October 28th, Greg Ellery (Steven) is also on-board for this project.
Greg Sestero (Mark) is involved in a limited way. He's not one of our main characters, but he'll be a part of the final film in a unique way. Sorry - the details are vague, but we know you love surprises.
Our creative team is comprised of award-winning, experienced filmmakers, many of whom are graduates of UCLA and USC film schools and have years of experience between them working on feature length and short films. Read more about our creative team here.
Robyn is an award-winning screenwriter and a fan of all things comedy. She received her MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television. She won a bunch of fancy sounding awards that she's gonna list because she really wants to impress you. They include the Samuel Goldwyn Screenwriting Award (2nd place), Harmony Gold Screenwriting Award, Jack Nicholson Prize in Screenwriting and The National Association of Theatre Owners of CA/NV Fellowship in Screenwriting. She was a Humanitas Prize nominee and won Oliver’s Prize in Screenwriting for Children while a student at UCLA's film school.
Robyn has written and developed movie projects for many production companies but won't bore you with a list. She's acted in numerous independent films, commercials and theatrical productions - many of which were decent! She has a background in improv comedy and has performed at Improv Olympic West (and Chicago), Second City Chicago and the Groundlings G3 stage. Her theatrical performances have been described as, “characterized by moxie and conviction” by the LA Times and “shining” by the Washington Post. Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Robyn has a BA from Duke University.
Scott White is a native Angeleno, who has performed, directed and written some of the funniest stuff you've never seen. He was a founding member of the sketch comedy troupe, LOST ANGELENOS, where he and Robyn collaborated after meeting at a callback for an ABC Studios Talent Showcase - which neither of them booked. Damn it. He has dedicated his life to his family, side projects, and miscellaneous digital distractions and drinking. He is a huge fan of The Room, and believes that Room fans are some of the funniest and smartest people he's ever hung out with. More than the movie, Scott is an even bigger fan of the cast members of The Room he worked with while producing this project for his fellow Roomies. Spoooooonnnns!
Another SoCal native, Amy Taylor, got her start on the set of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and went on to work for the MP Lit Department at CAA. She served as Director of Development for Kevin Donovan who helmed THE TUXEDO and she produced advertising and branded content for Viagra, Martini and Rossi, Cox Communications, Netzero, Virgin Mobile, X-Box, and Media Markt. She produced the award-winning doc CHILDLESS BY CHOICE and raised funds for the feature doc DESERT BLOOM. She has an MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and a BA from Stanford.
Jeanne Tyson is an LA-based cinematographer with experience shooting features, shorts and documentaries. Jeanne earned a BA in Art and Theatre from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, and a MFA in Production and Cinematography from UCLA’s School for Theatre, Film, and TV. Recent projects include the feature films LIMO RIDE, THE LOVELY REJCTS and AUGUST IN BERLIN. In 2013, Jeanne was behind-the-scenes cinematographer for the Academy Awards. A lecturer on cinematography at UCLA, Jeanne is in development on a slate of independent film projects for The Anchorage, a production company she owns with her sister, producer Elizabeth Tyson. Raised in Mobile, Alabama, Jeanne’s family remains a source of inspiration.
Here is a photo of some of our amazing crew!
Here's a link to that cool song we featured at the end of our Kickstarter video. It's called "Tangled Web" by Boston, MA band "Hazie Maze." Lead singer/songwriter is Amee Jana and my brother, Ty Osborne, is the percussionist/songwriter.
Risks and challenges
Coordinating schedules, securing locations, and adhering to a tight budget are some of the challenges we will face. Fortunately, we have a professional film crew and experienced producers on board to help everything go smoothly. While this project was inspired by the worst movie ever made, we are committed to making it one of the best comedy shorts you’ve ever seen. We’re doing this one right!
If we meet our goal, we will have the minimum amount of money we need to make this project. Because Kickstarter and Amazon fees and the costs of reward fulfillment take a chunk of change, we’ll be working within a tight budget. Thus, we are aiming to go over our stated goal so we have funds to get the full gamut of locations we want, pay for professional sound mixing, color corrections, minor special effects and potentially hire a wardrobe and art director.
With your generous help, we will make this project happen – of that we are sure. With a bigger budget, it can be spectacular!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
