About this project
Set in Fishtown, Philadelphia, Shaking Through is a documentary series that shows the birth of a song. Each year with the help of guest curators, we search the world and give 10 exceptional indie musicians a challenge: Record 1 song in 2 days, from first take to final mix - No extensions. No safety net. Captured by Philly’s best young filmmakers, we share the music and video with the world. Only 2 years in, and we’ve been praised by The Independent Film Channel, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Billboard & Pitchfork Magazines.
Why do we make it?
For the people who make Shaking Through our deepest motivation is the future of music. Audiences don’t see themselves as part of the equation for how music is brought to our culture. We show the recording process in a way that celebrates the art and craft of recording, as well as the close relationship between those who make and those who listen. We make this series to promote the understanding that, as cultural supporters, every person who loves music has an important role in its creation.
How have we done so far?
Since January 2010 Shaking Through has recieved acclaim around the music world and led to powerful career opportunity for several artists, including recording, publishing and booking contracts, and touring slots with some of the most important artists of our day. We've seen a huge increase in audience participation since we began to share the raw multitracks and mixstems from the recordings at Shakingthrough.com/stems. Over 3,000 home recordists in 45 countries have downloaded and shared their mixes. Their overwhelming response has been one of thanks not only for the chance to learn from these professionally recorded tracks, but for exposing them to music and bands they never would have heard otherwise.

How to use Kickstarter?
Click on "Back this project" above. If you would like to receive a gift for your pledge you may select from the listed "Backer Rewards". You don't have to select a gift, though. You can make a donation to the project just for the satisfaction of helping to make something great happen. Every Kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires or no money changes hands. So until we reach our minimum goal, this campaign is not guaranteed to raise any money!
No item could match the value of your support. We don't want you to think of this as a transaction. The gift items listed are our way of thanking you for the act of supporting this series.
