This project has been fully funded. Help us reach our stretch goals!
-If we hit $4000, everyone who backs the project will receive a digital copy of an experimental book I’m working on, working title “Kickstart Your Week with Comic Book Creators.” This collects my in-depth interviews with great comic book writers, artists, colorists, letterers, you name it, from my "Kickstart the Week" feature on Comic Frontline. It also features exclusive follow-up interviews about the aftermath of the creators’ projects, which you can only get in the book! Estimated delivery would be by the end of the year at the earliest.
-If we hit $ $7,500, everyone who backs the project will receive a digital copy of the second issue of Road Trip to Hell!!! Estimated delivery would be next year.
This Kickstarter kicks off the ongoing series Road Trip to Hell, a dark comedy filled with action, adventure and the worst the world had to offer. This is the first 24 page issue (22 pages of story + thank you pages) of a three issue first volume.
The story follows Francis, a young man who was born with the ability to be able to see horrible things in a person's future just by touching them. He meets Baphomet, a demon who informs him his father is the devil and he's been destroyed.
And according to his will, Francis has been named the new king of Hell.
Unfortunately for Francis, his life gets a whole lot worse when he finds out everyone in Hell has been freed and if they kill him, they can become the new ruler of Hell.
Francis is in for a hellish nightmare that includes the likes of Adolf Hitler, Attila the Hun, and many more. With the help of his sister Star, who is in remission from cancer, and his literal guardian angel Joan of Arc, Francis needs to survive his trip to hell... hopefully without losing his own soul in the process!
Why should you pledge?
This is the start to a unique story unlike any road trip you've ever seen before. It's filled with protagonists you will grow to love as well as the most horrific figures in history you will love to hate. Plus there's the beautiful art, colors and letters to enjoy!
I am the creator/writer, Nicole D'Andria, and this is my first creator-owned project! I'm a passionate comic book collector who works for Action Lab Entertainment. I am their marketing director, submissions editor and a script editor. Plus I have worked on several of their adaptations, including Peter David's Artful and on the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir comics. I also helped write an issue of their ongoing DollFace series (with more to come!). This is a work independent of the company, which I intend to market to publishers at a later date depending on feedback from backers!
The amazing penciler/inker for Road Trip to Hell is Marco Maccagni, who I knew was the perfect person for the job after seeing his gorgeous, action-packed panels in series like Vampblade and Archon.
The wonderful colorist is Joaquin Pereyra, who came to my attention thanks to his lovely color palette in MediSin.
The letterer for this issue is Justin Birch, who I have worked with before on projects like Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. He's worked on numerous titles, including Raven the Pirate Princess.
Brant Fowler dressed the cover and designed the title. He is a co-founder of Last Ember Press as well as an awesome letterer!
I also got a lovely variant cover from Zoe Stanley, whose adorable designs I first saw on variant covers for DollFace.
What exactly is the money going towards?
The money from this Kickstarter will help pay the cost of printing as well as sending books, plus the Kickstarter fee. Anything extra will go towards recouping the costs that I'm currently paying out of pocket for the creative team and help make the next couple of issues for Road Trip to Hell a reality. This is the first issue of a three part volume that, if it goes over well, will span at least six volumes in total for an epic adventure!
You can add-on an extra copy of any physical reward that you want (with a $15 minimum pledge) by 1) Clicking the "Manage Your Pledge" button. 2) Next, without changing the tier you originally pledged, increase your pledge by the amount needed to claim the add-ons you want. 3) Save your pledge. 4) I will contact you through Kickstarter when the campaign is over to ask which add-ons you want.
Praise for Road Trip to Hell:
“Road Trip to Hell is a wild, clever, inventive ride, mixing memorable, original characters that you root for and historical figures that you long to see finally get what they deserve. With the return of villains we thought we'd seen the last of, this story is timely and timeless. To find out what happens in this series, I will gladly go to hell!”—Jennie Wood (Flutter)
“Son of a…Devil? Rather, son of THE Devil. Road Trip to Hell is a great first comic from Nicole D'Andria. Marco Maccagni, Joaquin Pereyra, and Justin Birch compliment the witty writing and hairpin plot twists. Definitely pick this one up.” —Erica Schultz (Xena, Twelve Devils Dancing)
My current shipping plan is to use Kraken Print, a one-stop custom printing shop. Backers will get their rewards directly from them.
The timeline for KrakenPrint also changes depending on the season. Within a week of the Kickstarter being completed, I will send the pages for the electronic proof to the company. It will then take them 9-10 weeks to print the books and ship them to their warehouse. From there, they will be handling the shipping to each Kickstarter backer. Most likely backers will receive their rewards earlier than the estimated delivery date, but I've added some room in case rewards go out later than expected.
Risks and challenges
The script, inks, colors and letters are already 100% done. The only thing left to do is make the "Thank You" page! This means that any backers for the digital reward tiers will most likely be getting their rewards within a week after the campaign ends! The physical rewards will take at least two months to be printed, according to Kraken Print. Even if unexpected delays do happen, expect to get the physical book by the end of the year!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
