About this project
Deep in the Pacific Ocean, a secret military operation has uncovered something sinister. And the International research station Dark Reef is in its path. It’s up to you to protect the station and its inhabitants while they race to unravel the origin and secrets of this mysterious new force.
You are the station’s last line of defense, protecting The Dark Reef science team from the onslaught of a mysterious and inhuman foe.
But this won't be a traditional video game!
Each week, a new episode will be released, continuing that month’s chapter in the storyline.
Some chapters will put you in the pilot's seat, flying powerful underwater assault craft. Some chapters will put you in charge of a massive robot army to command (real-time strategy). Some chapters will be a mech game. And some chapters will even put you in a combat diving suit (first person shooter).
I'm hoping to raise enough money here on KickStarter to fund the first month's work, and hopefully raise awareness of the game enough for it to finally get some solid footing.
Feel free to check out the finished first level from TheDarkReef.com and let me know what you think!
Risks and challenges
Risks? Well, I'm saying I'm making a weekly game. That's a huge risk.
And I'm saying it's going to be fun. That's a huge risk.
And I'm doing 100% of the art and programming. So I'm kinda building the road while I run down it.
So... how can I pull this off? Well, I've been a game programmer for years, and I love games. And I'm using the mighty LightWave3D, which gives me modeling and animation in one tightly coupled package. And I'm using Unity3D for the game engine. I built a fairly complicated dialog and plot engine for an earlier game I was working on, but frankly this game is much more interesting.
So between the components I've made for about a dozen other games before it, and the 3D models I love making, I'll have more than enough fodder for the game.
Plus, I love playing games. And there's really nothing like this out there right now.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
