The project goal has been funded, all within less than a week!
I have been overwhelmed by the response of support and overall excitement for this project. Words cannot give justice to the gratitude I have towards not only those that have supported me, but also to those that continue to, and will support me in this endeavor.
BUT IT’S NOT OVER YET!
We still have a few more days to make this thing extraordinary. We were able to get $5,000 in less than a week - let’s try to get $7,500 in the time remaining! “Why so money hungry, Tyler?”, you might be asking. Well, in fact, this money will be going back into the project to give you supporters the best product I can create. This extra support can allow for a possible live string section (string quartet), more hard-copies of the record, better quality album art and generally a higher quality undertaking.
Greetings, friends, family, strangers, music lovers, internet lurkers, and Kickstarters!
This Spring I’m fulfilling a dream I've had for a number of years. I’ve gone through my vault of songs and have chosen a handful to refine into professional works. Mark Sommerville, of The Wave Shop, an exceptional audio engineer and musician, will be producing the album. I've had the privilege of working with him before and it’s an honor to collaborate with him again.
I need at least $5,000 to make this thing happen.
$5,000 will cover studio rental, engineer costs, CD duplication and distribution, and any equipment rentals. Additional funds raised will go towards the artwork, graphic design, and overall quality of the hard copy. These funds need to be raised in 21 days!!! If the goal of $5,000 isn't met in the 21 days, then no money is collected.
So, what’s my music like, and what are the major influences?
In short, this album is cognitive word vomit spun with melodic frills of folk.
My music is largely influenced by my time living in the heart of the Bluegrass State, the big, little city of Grand Rapids, MI, the Pearl of Africa and its neighbor, Kenya, and my current home just a stone's throw away from Chicago.
These songs don’t fit together perfectly like puzzle pieces, but their chaos does indeed take a form – a truly unique sound, shaped by a quagmire of experiences. Though this form isn’t without jagged edges, ugly colors or mismatched parts, it’s an album that represents who I was, who I am, and who I strive to be. My music has brought me solace as I’ve waded through bouts of depression, and continues to be instrumental in sorting through the good, the bad, and the downright confusing.
So, as you listen to my music, my hope is that you will enjoy it. I invite you to struggle with it, poke fun at it, be poked by it, and maybe even sing along. Because at the end of the day, though it’s just music, it’s still something we’re mysteriously drawn to as a tool of expression, a conduit for community, and a means of life.
How you can partake.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge I will face after the project has been funded will be making good use of studio time. So, in order to make sure the money is being used properly, there will be arduous scheduling and a ton of practice prior to recording.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
