About

What This Movie Is

That $#!% Will Rot Your Brain! aims to tell the untold story of who the Monster Kids were, how they came into being, and how they transformed the world around them. It focuses on the history of the Shock Theater Package and why kids were so drawn to the Classic Monsters. It goes on to chronicle the creativity Monsters sparked amongst kids and how Classic Monsters, with the help of kids around the globe, invaded pop culture.

Are You a Monster Kid?

While most of the Monster films at the time had been produced in the 30’s, they weren’t able to reach this new generation of kids until Shock Theater. Shock Theater is the name for the late night horror show phenomenon that occurred across the country by way of Public Access and unified by the presence of different ghoulish horror hosts.

Monsters began to invade American pop culture, making their way into everything from costumes, toys, and cars to comic books and breakfast cereals. There’s no question about it, the sudden popularity of these Monsters and their films twenty years after their release were directly tied to the Monster Kids themselves, who through their own creativity, immortalized the Monsters in self-made fanzines, comics, films, and new creative problem solving and innovations in the field of special effects.

And it kept going from there. Homegrown fanzines went on to become nationwide magazines with readerships in the hundreds of thousands. Kids doodling in the study hall room took their talents from the classroom to bigger offices at publishers like Marvel and DC. 12 year old filmmakers updated their stock from 8mm to 35. Childhood Frankensteins went from gluing household items to their neighbors and siblings to bringing to life some of the most terrifying and astounding Monsters the screen has ever seen. And it doesn't end there. Through these kids, Dracula is able to sneak in, via the TV set or a comic strip, to turn new fledgling Monster Kids.

So, rise up and celebrate Monsters! Help us tell the world about them and all of us kids who love them.

Where Your Money is Going

These final costs could be divided into two categories. Re-creations and Post Production. We need to film the final segments that illustrate some of the greatest Monster Kid stories we've heard. We want this film to be more than just interviews. We want to totally immerse everyone into the world of Monsters and for people to feel like they were there when the Monster Kids first came about.

The Post Production costs include hard drives, sound mixing, color timing, and the shipping costs of sending our film back and forth to a distributor.

This film has evolved into something larger than we could have ever imagined. We've traveled around the country.  We've met amazing people and heard incredible stories.  Now we just need your help to make it final.

None of the profits are going to the cast and crew. In fact, this project has been a volunteer effort from the beginning.  All of the profits on our end are going to Children's Hospital and Scholarships for Special Effects students.

If you can support us, you have the sincere gratitude of the entire crew. If you can't support us financially, please share this project with your friends. We appreciate everyone's help in making this film a reality.

Until then, stay spooky kids.
