About this project
Want just a single cup of joe? Don't spend hundreds on another coffee appliance that clutters your counter. Convert your existing coffee maker with the joe pod coffee converter. Now ANY coffee maker can take single serve packs!
How it Works
The joe pod takes single serve products like OneCup, RealCup and K-cup and not only allows you to brew them in your standard coffee maker, but also allows you to set the brew strength of the coffee. Here is how it works:
The magic of the joe pod is the bypass system that allows full control of the coffee brew strength. Single serve products typically require hot, higher pressure water to brew a cup of coffee. If hot water with no pressure is placed in to a single serve product, the coffee brews very slowly and makes a very strong brew (which many people do not like).
The bypass system in the joe pod is kind of like making an Americano (An Americano is strong espresso + hot water). The strong brewed coffee passes through the single serve cup and mixes with the hot water passing through the bypass system. By adjusting the height of the bypass valve, the user can control the strength of their coffee; from a dark and strong brew to a lighter, milder brew, you can adjust to your taste and preference. Your perfect cup of coffee is brewed in minutes using your favorite single serve product.
I have designed and prototyped the joe pod and I'm very excited about how much control the end user has over the strength of the brew. Here is what the inside of the joe pod looks like:
The design also fits in to any standard coffee maker. I designed the size of the joe pod to be the same as a standard coffee filter, so if your coffee maker can take a regular coffee filter, the joe pod will work for you. That's right, the joe pod fits in 100% of regular drip coffee makers that take a paper or screen filter. (Even conical or tapered filter coffee makers allow for the tapered basket to be removed by simply lifting out the basket. You can place the K-pod in its place). The videos below show the joe pod going in to several standard coffee makers available on the market today:

If you have any questions or concerns about the joe pod fitting with your coffee maker, send me an email and I will be happy to confirm it for you!
joe pod Stainless Steel Holder
One of the rewards is the joe pod with a Stainless Steel Holder that can stand alone, or attach to the side of your coffee maker. The joe pod holder can also store up to 6 of your favorite single serve products (The single serve products are for demonstration only and are not included with the reward).
If you would like more than one joe pod, just add the following prices to your base Reward price:
1. Add $20 on top of your base reward pledge for every additional joe pod
2. Add $25 on top of your base Reward pledge for every additional joe pod + Holder
Help get the joe pod off the ground by supporting the project through the rewards listed above. The joe pod also makes a great gift for the coffee lover in your life! Be one of the first to get a joe pod and benefit from the early bird pricing shown above!
Rewards for our friends in Canada!
If you live in Canada, here's the scoop: just add an extra $5 for shipping to the rewards base cost and select "in the US" on the rewards page. So if you choose the $19 reward, then just add $5 to make your total price $24. We'll see your address when it's time to ship and we'll confirm everything prior to shipment. Message me with any questions about this. Please note that this special international rate is just for Canadian shipments.
P.S. If you're from Canada and you placed your order before 13-FEB and paid the $20 extra for shipping, I will send you a second K-pod in your shipment at no extra cost. Or you can adjust your pledge price downward to reflect the Canadian shipping costs - up to you!
Manufacturing & Production Schedule
The schedule for joe pod production after funding is shown below.
My day job is directing and managing an international manufacturing supply chain for one of the largest product development firms in the Southeast. Over the past decade, I have made hundreds of thousands of parts both domestically and overseas, from design through full production, so I'm confident that we can meet the timeline shown above.
The joe pod will be manufactured with one of my tried and true suppliers in Asia. I have been working with this factory for over 6 years and have created hundreds of thousands of parts with them. I have a lot of confidence in their capabilities. Below is a video of my Quality Control Manager, Patrick, and the owner of the injection molding factory, Anthony.
I also have a good partner in Atlanta, GA who manages all of the warehousing, distribution and logistics on my programs. I plan to use my local partner to help with the fulfillment of the joe pod once it arrives in the USA.
Thanks to Morgan and Karla for helping with the video and thanks to Patrick Calderon for helping on the social media and marketing campaign!

Risks and challenges
I've launched a lot of products in my professional career and I know how to do it right. Sometimes things happen, but I have dealt with a lot of challenges and difficulties in in the world of new product development and I know how to manage through them.
On this project, if we encounter bumps in the road, I know I have an excellent team supporting me and I'm confident we can get through anything. I have a great relationship with my supply chain team both in Asia as well as in the USA. In the hundreds of thousands of parts I produced in the past decade, we have never not delivered. Sometimes things happen that set a project back a little bit, but with good quality control, a decade of experience in launching new products and a good supply chain, risk can be managed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We felt like K-pod was too similar to other products in the coffee market that were not owned by us or related to us. So we changed the name to avoid confusion. Nothing changed with the product, just the name.
Yes, it should. You may need to orient the joe pod a certain way to fit with your conical filter basket, but it should fit without trouble. Check out the video in the middle of the page that's devoted to conical filter baskets.
We plan to start shipping the joe pod in July, 2014. Check out our website (www.joepod.com) for more details and to keep up with the project.
Absolutely. Just go to our website: www.joepod.com and you can order directly from there!
We are working on an adapter that will allow the joe pod to work with Verismo and Nespresso. Keep checking out our website for updates on those and other new products!
