Children's stories used to be archetypes to life. They explained cause and effect in ways that children could understand. Today most children's stories teach a little something ( like numbers or colors or shapes ) but have left out the actual character teaching aspects that used to be a primer for life. My series of books seeks to change all of this. I am hoping to create a series that teaches Conservative Economic lessons in fun and imaginative ways.
I started writing back in August 2008. I had four Children then ( now I have five ) and realized that none of the children's books I had really taught anything about the world. They were fun stories but in the end most ( not all ) were meaningless. I then had a run in with a co-worker that had a belief system of 'soak the rich' they can afford it. I started to work on a story that would explain why that is not a good attitude to have, I created a story about a fisherman that develops a new way to catch fish and what happens when the village chief decides his new wealth is not fair for everyone else. The message got through to my co-worker. He got it. Two years latter working with a wonderful Artist named Heather Dixon the first book in the series was created.
I need your help now to make this next book. In many ways I am checking to see if people will support this concept. My first book has done fairly well. But I am going to be another year at this point before I could afford to make the next one. Your support will make it possible.
What will my Support go toward?
The funds for this project will go toward my next Book The Cobblers Magic : A Conservative Bedtime Story
Half of this will go to pay for the art work, the rest will go toward the actual cost of book printing. I want to get the book created and out there for children to enjoy and learn from. I am offering my first book as one of the rewards to pay for getting this second book out. I would recommend getting both books if you can! The books are really geared for kids between the age of 4 - 12. The older the child the better the discussion you can have with them about the book... While it may seem strange to hand these books to a 12 year old it actually is the perfect gift for that age, they will learn the most and you will reap the benefits as they grow up! Two and Three year old children will appreciate the pictures but the story is simply a fun story at that point the real learning is yet to come!

Today most children's stories teach a little something ( like numbers or colors or shapes ) but have left out the actual character teaching aspects that used to be a primer for life. My series of books seeks to change all of this.
My first story centered around a Fisherman in the pacific islands many years ago that discovers a new way to catch fish. It shows his struggles to invent it, his frustration and disbelief when he thinks he has failed, and his elation at finding ultimate success.
This was coupled with showing how easy it is in society to see one gain wealth and the desire then to 'make things fair' as the jealous village chief takes an ever increasing portion of the fisherman's catch for 'the good of the village'.
It teaches kids many aspects of cause and effect, it asks the questions as to when is it okay to take something that is not yours. It teaches how quality of life is effected by innovation and the rewards that come with it!
This current project springboards off of the first, going to a world on the other side of imagination. To the land of Fairies, Goblins, Elves, and all manner of mystical creatures! This bright and beautiful land, due to the Fairy Councils unwillingness to say no, is about to be plunged into a dark and troublesome problem. Please note that these are only sketches to date, we need your help to really put this book together!
You see every time the ogres or faeries or elves or nymphs or goblins went to the fairy council for something, whether it was healthcare, or a retirement package, or better roads, or more magic for schools, or lower taxes on the 99%, you know just about everything that one group or another thought was worthwhile the council said yes.
This is all contrasted against one intelligent cobbler elf named Silvia, who learned to tell herself 'No'. You see the word 'No' is not a bad word, in a world of infinite wants but limited resources, the word 'No' is how we budget. She would say 'No' to buying a special treat, she would say 'no' when at times there was something she wanted VERY badly. The word 'No' is how we make budgets and stick to them.
The Council however decides to fix the problem of not having enough magic to pay for everything by 'making' magic instead. Led by the Head of the Council Aiden, they cast a terrible dark spell.
This spell cannot 'make' magic, but what it does do is take a little magic from everywhere diluting the magic. This story in the end is about deficit spending, inflation, and that saying 'No' is a good thing. That often times the word 'no' does not mean 'not ever' but instead it means, 'not right now' or, this is not the best way.
The purpose of these books is to help explain why doing the things we do as a society now, may seem like a great idea, that it will 'help' us, but the reality is that all to often these concepts take us down the road of unintended consequences. That doing things in the near term may feel gratifying right away but it is the long term that we have to examine and plan for.
For those that pledge at least $5.00 I have a fun door hanger that I can send out to you for your kids, or hey even yourself from 'The Fisherman's Catch : A Conservative Bedtime Story'
I believe that children imitate the things they see and learn. The lessons and values that we expose them to at a young age will shape the kind of person they long to be. In these books you will help set your children on firm economic understanding, teach them values that will, if followed, ground them in Conservative Fiscal discipline the rest of their lives. The best part about these stories is not only do they teach wonderful things to children, but they are FUN stories that kids will want to read over and over again.
Please support this project and please help us create a brighter tomorrow for our kids!
As with any project there are going to be difficulties. I will not allow the book to be printed until it has the highest quality illustrations, the best story line possible, and of course being fully funded. If you have my first book already then you know how serious I am about quality. The books will be printed here in the United States. Any delay that may occur will be communicated to you as quickly as possible. The faster the project funds the more likely we will to be on time. I do not foresee going over by anything more than a month or two at the worst case scenario.
As far as risks go, well there is always the chance that someone will kill me because I say the point of view the book takes. Yes I have had death threats. However in that event I have the illustrator take over and ensure that everything is done correctly. My belief is that most of these threats are simply that, threats. But one never knows for certain in this world.
Other than those I see little problem in accomplishing this project in a timely fashion. Please help support entertainment that actually teaches something of value to today's youth.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
