This is my first SOLO album. I spent a year and a half creating the songs on this record, and much longer finding the balls to do it. It’s been humbling, it’s been exhilarating, it’s been a frigging education. AND I AM NEARLY THERE! I’m so happy I could cry.
I laid down 5 tracks with producer/engineer Chris Botta and drummer Dylan Greene.
- This Kind of Love, an a cappella duet with my vocal processor, the TC-Helicon, which turns my voice into VOICES
- Singe me, featuring Dylan's BIG BADASS DRUM ARRANGEMENTS and some pretty sick production
- Rebeam me, my personal favorite, thanks to a crazy move from Chris involving a voice memo from my iPhone, + me singing REAL LOUD opera style
- What I offer, which started as a crazy experiment to switch up the tempo every 4 seconds, and then became Chris's trippy AF electronic masterpiece
- August, the gorgeous finale co-created with my beloved Oracle Hysterical (a.k.a. my other band with Dylan, Elliot Cole, Brad & Doug Balliett)
As I write this, we're finalizing the mixes and mastering all 5 tracks on the record. We are VERY VERY close to being finished and anticipate BIG HAPPY things ahead when the record comes out.
Full disclosure, we're not sure yet whether to go the label route, or do a self-release. Since for now at least we're without a giant label to front the schmazillions of dollars that it takes to design and manufacture and promote a record, I'm coming to YOU, friends and family and people of the mighty interwebs, to gather funds so I have the capital to put this album out with a huge fucking bang.
Will you name my album?
I don't just want your money. I want you to NAME THIS ALBUM.
Here's how it'll work. During the first 2 weeks of the campaign, I'll be asking for your suggestions. We'll make a big, ridiculous word cloud with all your ideas. Then, in the second 2 weeks, you'll vote on your favorites. The final day of the Kickstarter, I'll choose a name from the 3 most popular, and announce the title of the new record CREATED BY YOU!
Boaty McBoatface is taken.
I put together the perfect band to record this music, including genius drummer/arranger DYLAN GREENE who KILLED IT on the album, and who finds a way to make a lotta weird objects -- brooms, spray cans, couches and pretty much anything you can hit -- sound amazing. Plus, look at him, he's adorable.
On and off for over a year, Dyl and I locked ourselves up in a studio in Bushwick with producer/engineer CHRISTOPHER BOTTA and his wicked wicked chops. Chris weathered with grace my knuckle-headedness about the recording process, and turned some pretty ditties into powerful tunes.
- If I wanna give a trillion dollars but I only want the $10 prize, can I do that? Can I combine rewards?
Uh, yeah! Just click on whatever prize you do want, and then in the 'Pledge amount" box, enter whatever you wanna pay. If you're combining rewards, just send me a note and let me know what you're paying for! And if you really, really want something that's not listed, tell me! I can't guarantee I'll do it, but you never know.
- What, no physical CDs?
Okay but seriously 1) It's not 1999 and 2) yeah. However, when the album is done there will most definitely be USB sticks, and MAYBE CDs and MAYBE EVEN VINYL, but let's cross that bridge when the album is done!
- Do you play shows?
We do, we do! Shows are EXPENSIVE to put together, so for the next year we're at the local-shows-in-NYC stage. But once we get rich and famous from your support during this Kickstarter we will go on a giant ass-kicking world tour and YOU will be backstage with us!
Risks and challenges
As an independent artist without a label, I've managed to scrape together 12K from my own money; we need at least another 11K to do this properly. If we raise the minimum, we'll do the minimum, and do it well. If we raise more, we'll do more and do it better!
