About this project
Due to new contacts and better production opportunities we will cancel Ninja Arena and return during the first quarter 2017. This decision is for the good of you all because we will able to enhance the game features and recalculate the price. Stay tuned on kickstarter, facebook, instagram and www.ninja-arena.de!
If you like to know the basics about the game - read on:
Ninja Arena is a tactical and highly competitive 3D board game featuring real tin ninjas! Each player is leading their ninja through a wooden arena board to fight other players for supreme victory. The gameplay focuses on predictive planning, tactical consideration and keen combat strategies.
Ninja Arena is a sustainable project focusing on a nature-bound concept of creating board games. As a result Ninja Arena is 100% free of plastic and comes with a lot of handcrafted material. This conviction makes our games an high-quality, everlasting entertainment for our fans and friends.
Play in teams, free-for-all or direct duels with different objectives and game modes - choose your favorite way. To get smoothly into the strategic depth of Ninja Arena, the rulebook is split in three sections from beginner's, to advanced and professional rules. This way it takes less than 10 minutes to get you started.
The first edition of Ninja Arena was quickly sold out in Germany and with great reviews and ratings in our backs, its now time to step up onto the international stage.
Be part of the pioneers to get Ninja Arena professionally translated and fully produced with english content. Please help us to make this game available to all english-speaking players. You are going to love Ninja Arena as much as we do - even after a few hundred matches.
Cheers & regards,
the 2mt Games Team

To give you an insight right from the start, here is the "endgame" of Ninja Arena. This game is without commentary just to show you how fast you can play Ninja Arena at the pro-level:
Let's take a look under the hood of Ninja Arena. First of all the players may create their own arena using the modular set-up of the game or choose from our suggested scenarios. This way the environment of Ninja Arena changes with every match you play and every enemy you face.
See the video below for a quick example of The Canyon scenario (No. 3) from our rulebook.
After the setup and depending on their level of experience, all players choose their tin ninja and get equipped for the battle. Here you can pick, draft or randomly select your character, ranged- and melee weapons. Again, Ninja Arena allows and even encourages you to flavor it the way you personally like to play. The player-setup will look very similar to this:
The gameplay mainly consits of two intense phases:
- The very tactical planning phase
- The exciting combat phase
During the planning phase all players act simultaneously by choosing three ninja actions to be executed during the combat phase. Like classic ninjas, the players plan in secret utilising 18 different ninja moves in three distinct execution-speeds. You may cover your actions with the delivered screen or simply with your free hand.
Finally the planning phase ends with a nice little race for the initiative counters. Those are the tip of the scales - so be quick or incorporate a late initiative into your planning strategies.
Once the last counter is claimed the ninjas enter the exciting combat phase. Depending on action speed and in case of a draw in order of the initiative counters, each planned action is executed.
This way your ninjas battle, jump, flip, roll and dive by your command - so lead them wisely.
During the game you will obtain 3 different dice, with different abilities as shown below. Beginners start without the white die until later (advanced & professional games):
Even though there are many dice in Ninja Arena (see pictures), nothing is really depending on any luck-factor. The dice are set and not rolled, because every side of each die represents a ninja action you can choose.
You will find Ninja Arena a nicely balanced game between intuition and tactics. And we can tell you after so many matches we've played; there is always room for a surprise and an epic maneuver comming your way.
Please find below some gameplay videos as well as introduction videos about the rules. This is work in progress and we will try to serve you quickly with more HQ videos at a later stage. Its important for us, that you get a good idea what you can expect from Ninja Arena.
You asked for it and you get it asap:
Right from the Spiel16 at Essen with just a mobile phone and no editing - the quick english introduction to the beginners rules. We were also approached with a request for an realistic insight of the endgame in Ninja Arena. Therefor we quickly recorded a pure gameplay with professional rules at our family table. This is without much explaination just what Ninja Arena looks like once you mastered the pro-rules:
External Gameplays include the duel-review by cliquenabend.de with nice feedback from Smuker (german).
Would you like to see more? Please comment with the setting and angles you would like to see - we are happy to record some footage for you.
The players choose their ninja character at the beginning of the game. Four different, high definition tin models represent the characters in a particular pose.
Main characters are "the Shadow" and "the Weaponmaster" - both with their unique fighting style. Each character has three special abilities nicely suited for their fighting style. The lightfooted Shadow for example has a set of very agile special actions, while the Weaponmaster is more of a tough fighter going in hard & heavy. The special abilities are set with different speeds - important for their execution during the combat phase. Red = fast, blue = normal and white = slow speed as shown in the following picture.
Again the design of Ninja Arena allows the development of new characters and abilities. You can upgrade their skillset with one of the pledges and a stretch goal right from the start. Besides, its always worth meeting us at exibitions for promo-cards and more ;)
Even though unarmed ninjas are quite dangerous, we added a nicely balanced set of weapons for them. This way every ninja is even more deadly and the game stays excitingly intense to the very last second. It is quite possible and more realistic (imho) to seize victory within a single, brilliant turn. The weapons make the game a solid action battle and some even generate synergies with special abilities of the characters.
Weapons are divided by their type into ranged and melee weapons. From left to right, the symbols on the weapons stand for the damage they deal, the applications they have and the distance they hit. During an advanced or professional rules game these weapons can be dropped, changed and get picked up. Usually open weapons on the arena board drag attention and generate heat spots for tough fights.
As requested here a preview of the original weapons in Ninja Arena:
Ninja Arena is highly customizable, giving you tons of options for your own ideas, house rules and even designs. In the past many players colored their tin ninjas with different themes and styles - creating a unique appearance.
Because of the many wood components, we also saw different modifications to the arena and the obstacles within. E.g. Players preferring melee combat installed some walls for additional cover against ranged attacks.
For all the board game enthusiast out there, we added a particular ninja action on the white die to be set by the players. These "house rules" allow you to spice up the game the way you like it. We only give some advice and suggestions what you might like. Of course it was only a matter of time until the first drinking game emerged from the community at our forums. So if you like to develop more game modes like the drunken masters, feel free to join our community to exchange more creative ideas.
Whatever drives you - jump into the action and go crazy-creative about Ninja Arena.
Ninja Arena was reviewed several times by different, independend experts. We also had the chance to practice performing in front of cameras and microphones. We are still looking for renowned reviewer / critics for our english prototypes! Here are some (mostly german) videos and interviews about Ninja Arena and this campaign.
Ratings / Customer's opinions
Press & Newspapers
Okay, lets talk about the business, campaign funding and the production of Ninja Arena. The money we raise all together will go directly to the benefit of the game, the creators dedicating their lifetime and of course our customers. Here is the plan:
While we still develop and improve some game components we are 100% sure about the material we are going to use and where it origins from. Because of our ideology we chose wood, cardboard and tin for our primary resources. Because we are sick of all the pastic games out there, Ninja Arena will be 100% free of plastic!
This is where most of the founding will go to - increasing the quality and worth of your game material. We want you to get Ninja Arena as an everlasting product for you to enjoy.
Most "western nations" tend to develop a wish for regional production, being aware of the consequences to the working market etc. We also had the pleasure to visit factories in China and witness the conditions there. That is why Ninja Arena was and will be produced in Germany and its neighbour countries! We are happy to pay fair wages for good work and want to make sure everyone working with us can make a living. Of course thats a little more costly, but worth every penny.
- Gameboard + Obstacles made in the region of the black forest and Bavaria (Germany).
- Illustration, development and commissioning is done by ourselfs in Hessia (Germany).
- Dice & Cardboard will also origin from Bavaria.
This is the second most important part of the funding for our backers. We will make sure that Ninja Arena is responsibly produced, so you can enjoy it with a confident smile.
The small team behind Ninja Arena is very dedicated to the project and spent endless hours making this game a great entertainment for everyone. We want to make sure the campaign is successfully funded and lower the risk of failure. That's why we all put in a big deal of our free time without payment to make this happen.
Meet us all personally at the next big fair! Don't be shy, we are humble, quick learners and easy to talk to ;)
We share the vision to release a solid boardgame and a new reason to gather at the family-table and have some great time together. On the way to this goal we will preserve our souls and make sure its done right. Thats why we don't want to support or risk any kind of child labour. We produce only where we can visit and talk to the workers as well as knowing they get treated fair and can make a living of their wages. Besides the people we want mother nature not to be harmed by our doings. This is why we choose renewable resources and responsible standards during production. Lets step a little lighter and be aware of our ecological footprint. This is not another "save the planet" call, the planet is absolutly fine - its about us all, we will long be gone while the planet easily heals over a few million years.
Someone who is releasing a boardgame with high quality game material like our wood and tin components is obviously not after the big money shot and has to commit private funds while being a tiny publisher like we are. Guess what, that won't stop us from releasing a great game like Ninja Arena to the people out there, bringing them together at one table and spreading some good fun.
Get interesting news around Ninja Arena and 2mt Games from our social media pages. This is where we post additional pictures and cool stuff around the project. Also you might find some nice give-aways and merchandise to win.
Meet us at the "Spiel'16" exhibition in Essen (Hall 4, B-125) and at the Kickstarter booth during demo sessions!
The original Ninja Arena mechanics were designed early 2014 by two german engineers Oliver Schneider (2mt Games) and Rainer Schoof. Successfully crowdfounded with more than 150% in 2015 the authors gathered a small but talented team behind Ninja Arena. In this process 2mt Games was founded, things got real and serious. It took us a full year, many sleepless nights and a true believe in our fellow teammates to finish Ninja Arena. But we got rewarded for hanging on: after the great game release back in june 2016, the first edition was quickly sold - almost snapped up. We didn't know anyone within the boardgaming scene and still managed to get great reviews, learned directly from our customers feedback and got nice ratings for our Ninja Arena. Still, there is much to learn and many great people to meet - we are eager to get to know them all and spread the joy we experienced making our first boardgame.
We are brand new to the boardgame business and we are still looking for partners along the way. Distributors, Retailers, Publisher, overseas representatives or simply people who enjoy helping us to make Ninja Arena an even bigger entertainment for our fans. Especially on the international markets, we are fairly unknown but very sociable and happy to meet everyone out there. So feel free to contact us for further details and get in touch now.
We make the whole process of shipping and customs extremly easy for you. Within Europe we ship directly from Germany with experienced transport service. Talking about Europe, we will not separate the United Kingdom and make sure we deliver to our neighbour island. For our fans further away we have the following arrangements already made:
Designed and manufactured in Germany, our Ninja Arena is ready for its international apperance.
Risks and challenges
Previous to this project we have been successfully funded with 150% for our 1st edition of Ninja Arena. We took the chance to learn from the risks and challenges back then, specially getting our timings fixed. The production is pretty straight forward because we have already done it before. But there is still room to improve and we would like to take the time and get you the best possible results. Therefor we set very conservative delivery dates and may suprise you along the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
