Calling all entrepreneurs! Learn in 90 minutes how to teach yourself coding while working full time from the founder of inclued.com

On 10/2, I will be hosting a launch event to unveil inclued.com, a free one-stop portal for sourcing high-end corporate event venues. I have been building inclued.com for the last 2.5 years in my "garage" while working full time as a Marketing Director at a global Dow 30 company.  As part of the launch, to give back to the entrepreneurial community that has helped me so much, I want to share my insights on how to go from concept to website smartly and efficiently. Your pledge will allow me to teach 60 people in-person in NYC on how to learn 5 web programming languages for less than $150 and in your own time while working a full-time job. The event will be on Tuesday, October 2nd from 4:15 pm to 5:45pm at Chef David Bouley's renowned Test Kitchen at 88 West Broadway, New York, NY. The pledges will go towards funding the venue as well as the cost of preparing the presentation.  Any extra funds could go towards hosting another session should this first one prove to be successful.  So come be in the know so you can initiate your entrepreneurial dreams today.  Many thanks in advance for allowing one entrepreneur to help another!

ps: inclued.com is right now open on an invitation only basis to set number of corporate clients. But you can still see a demo of what I've built by going to www.inclued.com/demo

Sincerely from,

  • Great question. I never learned Ruby or its framework Rails so please take the following response from that perspective. The session is more business-oriented than technical and will not discuss the syntactical differences or preferences between the available languages and their frameworks. Hence, the best way to look at this session is learning how to be your own CTO until you have your MVP (Minimum Viable Product)...so that you can become the CEO of your ecommerce. I'm a firm believer that you need to learn at least the basic of coding or you'll never own your website or converse with real programmers on your team. The session will start by contextualizing all the different terminologies you hear when it comes to web programming - i.e; server, FTP, database, CMS, front-end vs back-end, etc. For instance, to get a browser to actually display your codes, you need to know HTML, CSS, and sometimes Javascript. So the resources I will share with you is to learn how all the different components work together and how those 3 languages, PHP, & MYSQL play in that context. As per the video, I will also share with you my personal journey of how I managed my time and how my market testing the concept shaped my commitment to coding and my MVP.

  • I completely understand and am very sorry I couldn't find a time that was more suitable for you. Unfortunately, the latest we could start is 4:15pm. My counsel is work will always be there when you go back the next day, especially if it's something that would have only taken you 30mins - 45mins more it's not going to (hopefully) rock your career one way or the other. So ask for a rain-check from your boss and colleagues and come be in the know and attend our session! I hope to see you there!

  • You most certainly can. However, seasoned entrepreneurs have taught me that a prototype only lasts for 72 hours as you figure out how your customers want to use your product. It becomes very difficult and expensive then to rely on outsourced help to tweak and pivot on-demand, not to mention how time-consuming it is to hand-over one coder's work to another. I also couldn't stand the idea of not understanding terms like SQL database, javascript, HTML5, jQuery, FTP, Hosting, domain, etc. You don't have to be a programmer for life - just understand the basic. When you go to market, trust me, you are going to want to know and understand everything about your product.

  • Based on my personal experience, I can show you

1- What you need to learn...how to be brilliant at the basics of coding
2- The books & website that helped me learn my language of choice (PHP)
3- How to balance a full-time day job while learning
4- How I went, not just from concept to website, but concept to market. My personal journey
5 - You will walk away knowing that you can do this too. I am not a programmer by training - I have a finance and marketing background.
