Don't Feed the Trolls is a documentary about breaking stereotypes.
Society perceives fandoms (and their fans) in a light which is hardly flattering and, while we tend to embrace our nerdom,
It is not all we are.
A fandom is a community of fans, and writers, and artists, and poets, and cosplayers... a community of real people living real lives coming together to form a culture of their own. This is exactly what Don't Feed the Trolls sets out to show.
The film will focus on Nicole, both a fitness professional and a die hard fan. Her two very different worlds will blend together to show that there is more to belonging to a fandom than the "fanatic" stereotype society has given us.
When Liz is at her computer, she's either fiddling with Final Cut Pro or watching Buffy and when Nicole isn't at the gym, she's practicing her screenwriting skills by writing Doctor Who fan fiction. It only made sense for these two to come together and create a film about the community of fandoms to which they belong.
What is a fandom without its fans?
We'll be putting out calls for Skype interviews with real fans. We want to hear from you! Not only that, but we'll be requesting fan art submissions to be considered for the final film.
And yes, we will be at this year's NY Comic Con and we'd love to hear from the fans there too!
We'd love to get this film out to as many fans as possible! Not to mention we'd love for it to look as sharp as can be! Funding will go towards camera supplies, hiring an animator, Comic Con tickets, and other things that will all go towards making this film epic!
Seriously, We may all share that inner nerd, but we are all real people. And we need a film that shows that. :-)
Nicole and Liz are more than ready to make this happen!
Risks and challenges
We (Nicole and Liz) both went to film school and between the two of us we've worked on dozens and dozens of films and projects. We know that in the film world, anything that can go wrong will go wrong and we're more than ready to tackle anything that comes our way. We once worked on a project where we lost our hard drive and all of its contents. We STILL finished the film and it's rocking in film festivals right now.
Seriously, we've got this. No worries. Don't Feed the Trolls will happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
