About this project
In Britain we have a proud tradition of making the finest textiles and clothes.
But the British clothing industry faces serious challenges. One of the biggest of these is the seasonality of demand. For several months of every year even the very best British factories are nowhere near full. This can lead to seasonal hiring and firing, or worse still to factory closures.
Community Clothing will use this spare capacity to make great clothes, and then sell these clothes directly to the consumer, cutting out the usual wholesale and retail mark-ups.
We plan to fill these factories by making clothes that everyone can afford. Think of Community Clothing as a new form of co-operative, one that exists simply to sustain and create jobs and skills, and to restore pride in our textile making communities.
EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY EVERYDAY STAPLES
Community Clothing will offer a range of fantastic quality staple garments, the sort of clothes we wear every day.
By designing with simple manufacturing in mind, by minimising the number of sewing operations, and by designing the range around a standard set of colours and types of fabric, these products can be sewn in the same premium fabrics and with the same quality as the best high-end designer clothes.
Where do I select my size? Upon successful funding, we'll send out a survey with a detailed size chart so that you can select your size. Should you have any questions then please email firstname.lastname@example.org We will be very happy to help you choose the right style and size.
By using local suppliers of fabrics, buttons, labels, and as many other products and service as we can we will create even more jobs within the communities where we make our clothes. And with our profits we will invest in programmes in those same communities where the factories are located, supporting skills training, personal development programmes and apprenticeships, programmes that help people into skilled jobs in the textile and garment industry.
Risks and challenges
When it comes to fulfilment of order we believe the risks are low. As a team we are experienced in the design, manufacture and delivery of clothing we’ve been doing it for over ten years now.
Our products have been designed, prototyped and tested, and all of our fabrics are well known to us. We know they fit, we know they last.
We are of course subject to the usual unpredictability of product manufacture, but not more so than any other clothing business. Almost all of our fabrics and other materials are sourced locally, most within 25 miles of our manufacturer who is of course here in the UK. This should minimise any potential delays in the supply chain, and make it easier for us to stay up-to-date with, and to fix, any possible production issues should any arise.
Our manufacturer will begin producing our clothing in March, allowing us for a delivery time as early as June. If order volumes are very high then of course manufacture will take longer, and those of you who pledged later may need to wait a little longer. We believe that in the worst case scenario we will have your pledge rewards shipped by September. Should this be the case, we promise to contact you in advance.
We are confident that you will love our products, and that you will be delighted with our service.
