A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The idea behind this invention first came to Hélène thanks to her cat Merlin. When she tried to cut his nails, give him medicine, brush his teeth, or just groom him, it was a no easy task. So to remedy this, thanks to her past studies in industrial design, she designed Pethold.
It is a product dedicated to the comfort of the pet and their owner with this hands-free grooming kit *. With Pethold, your pet is perfectly safe and comfortable, held in a soft hammock made of fleece. Pethold's ease of use will caters to you, your family, veterinarians, grooming salons and other professionals.
We want to make this revolutionary product available to everyone in order to pass on the benefits to pet owners who face the same problems on a regular basis. In these crazy COVID times, a DO IT YOURSELF KIT is what pet enthusiasts owners need to do themselves at home.
In order to put this product on the market in the next 6 months, we still have a few steps to go through in the prototype phase :
we need to test the legs with an anti-rust coating for bathing use.
we need a new prototype to see the feasibility of a locking mechanism.
we want to change the temporally 3D printed paws to a silicone material with a soft mold.
* phase 2 testing of hammock material and design with improved hangers
Furthermore, we are still in the midst to change the hammock's die-cutting design and try new fabrics. We also ordered 6 different color finishes for the structure to select the most marketable. Some of them were flawed, so we kept silver and gold for the moment and plan to order new colored prototypes. See below.
* color plated prototypes
The Pethold can also be used daily as a side table for a computer or for a coffee table! Even to hold magazines! We want to develop accessories to go with the structure.
A clip on tray to offer a greater working surface.
Wheels to help injured animals with low mobility.
* Multifonctional aspects
See for yourself, watch the teaser below of our latest testings. We are so close to our goal, help us bring Pethold to life!!
* For animals under 9 kilos (20 pounds) and less
Risks and challenges
This project has been in development for a few years, we already have several prototypes and we need 3 more to finalize the development.
We need your help financing the pre-production of our project.
1st step: We need at least 5000$ (including the 1000$ for the changes) to complete the development.
2nd step: 30 000$ for all the molds of the Pethold. (all prototypes were made by hand)
Recommended for groomers who uses their existing grooming table. This pledge grants you a set of hangers and a single hammock, giving you an add-on tool to suspend your pets including ones with reduced mobility.
Enthusiasts who don't have a pro setup should consider the full Pethold kit...
But... if your budget doesn't allow it, it can sill be used with a single pole clothing rack over a table. Whatever you decide, avoid using it on your shower curtain pole! At such height, it would be too dangerous for you or your pet.
